THINGS THAT MAKE MONDAY MORNINGS EASIER
I didn’t realize how much easier our mornings could be until I started doing these things the night before.

Once both my kid started school this year at a new place 20 mins away it became evident I needed a better system for Monday mornings. We were constantly scrambling to get out the door on time and failing. So now prepping for Monday starts on Sunday.

BACKPACK RESET
I empty out the bags. Art & paperwork gets sorted into love it & leave it piles. Trash & anything else gets cleared out.

FAMILY CALENDAR REVIEW
I keep a fridge calendar so I can get a quick glance of any activities for the weekend we to plan or pack for.

MAKE LUNCHES
I fill the kids lunchboxes. I also wash and cut fruit & veggies for the week and prep recipes like Mac & cheese or rice pilaf.

CUBBY RESTOCK
I grab extra change of clothes, socks, my son’s sleep sack, water bottles… anything the kids can keep at school for the week.

SNACK DRAWER RESTOCK
I clean and refill with grab & go items we ca toss in the bags for snack time or to eat on the car ride.

DROP ZONE READY
I make sure our drop zone has the shoes & jackets we’ll need to put on on our way out.

The biggest lesson the 3rd baby taught me was that we need better systems.

A few that make the biggest difference right now:

After school activity & snack dinner
The kids know are hangry when they get home. The want to snack & watch a show. Having a balanced snack as dinner and invitation for them to do independent play has dramatically cut down on the Mel downs.

Toy baskets everywhere
Instead of organizing toys constantly, everything goes back into simple baskets & binslocated in every room. Fast resets > perfect organization.

Clothes at kid height
My daughter can choose and get dressed herself because everything is accessible to her. That saves time getting out the door in the mornings.

Garage drop zone
Backpacks, shoes, and all the “coming and going” stuff lands here instead of spreading through the house.

Fridge calendar
A quick visual of the week so everyone knows what’s happening without me being the human reminder system.

None of these systems are complicated.
But together they make our home run a lot more smoothly.

Truly a NIGHT & DAY DIFFERENCE
My kids were having a hard time wit the transition from school back home. Everyday the walked in the door turns into a mega meltdown. I’ve heard this is actually quite common. One day I decided to test out having an activity prepared for them to come home to. They walked in and instead of the crying and whining the settled into almost an hour of calm quiet time. I couldn’t believe it. I did it the next day and same thing. Now it’s part of our routine and I swear by it. 4:30pm at our house used to look like this:
Two starving kids.
Endless snacking.
Zero appetite at dinner.
Everyone cranky. 🙃

So I changed one thing.

Instead of random snacks, I made an after-school snack tray to encourage the kids to “eat their rainbow.” 🌈

Each color = a different food group.
They get it right when we walk in the door (when they’re actually hungry), and suddenly dinner isn’t a battle anymore.

Now:
✔️ They’re fueled
✔️ I don’t feel guilty about “snacks”
✔️ Adults eat later while the kids play

Restocking my protein + hydration pantry today because when life gets busy (aka always), this is what keeps me fueled without overthinking it. As I head out the door I can grab a bar or a shake to toss in the diaper bag. And as I got about my day with my Stanley in hand I rotate what I’m drinking between greens powder, electrolytes, and other supplements to support what I need in this postpartum phase.
