I love the idea of a whimsical, hands-on, supplement filled education, but the only way it is possible for my capacity is to choose intentionally.

Some subjects are plain easy to bring to life with art projects, documentaries, and all the extras, and then some subjects are simply plain. I actually really appreciate those subjects (i.e., grammar and spelling) because they allow me to curate a well balanced homeschool day.

One of my favorite no frills needed homeschool curriculum is Fix It Grammar. We have used it successfully for all 3 of my kids for years. The newer updated version is amazing! We use it 4 days a week for 5-10 minutes a day. It is efficient, simple, and truly open-and-go. If you want a closer look, I have a new video that walks you through an entire week of using Fix It Grammar.

Immersing my kids on a homeschool literary journey has not always been easy. There once was a time when a sour perception towards reading really had me wondering if we could get to a place of living book bliss. Well, I have seen firsthand that faithfulness in worthy habits leads to transformation.

At quick glance, parenting seems and feels inconvenient. Nothing like an unexpected diaper leak (tip: have a change of clothes for your babe AND you in the car) or the slowest shoe tying experience of a lifetime to stir up this feeling.

Inconvenient Parenting was encouraging. It is a quick read that packs a punch. As my children seem to be growing faster lately, both outwardly and inwwardly, these reminders are even more significant.

The work of teaching my children to take in and process ideas for themselves had an unexpected benefit.

Self education is a core value of a Charlotte Mason education, and it is essentially doing the work of feeding your mind for nourishment.

The perk I never saw coming was the lesson in this for myself. More than anything or anyone, my children watch me. They observe what I consume physically and mentally, and how I choose to spend my time.

Homeschooling has provided me with opportunity for and awareness of discipline in ensuring my own nourishment.

That could sound like work, and on many days it is, but I like to think of it as a work perk.

This was my first time using a Bible study from @thedailygraceco. It kept me motivated with something to look forward to each morning.

Finding the perfect pillow has been a lifelong quest for this dedicated side sleeper! After what feels like an adulthood filled with trial and error, I’ve finally found the one.

📖 Raising a Screen Smart Kid by Julianna Miner
This is the first book in a stack that I'm reading together with my teen. So far, it is really helpful to go through this together. It discusses very relatable things, and is helping us understand ways to be a responsible digital citizen.

📖 Restored: A Bible Study on the book of Joel
Never am I more disciplined in the Word than when I'm homeschooling. I love the rhythm of having this solitude before the chaos of a day. I'm just about finished with this study, and looking forward to my next one in Ecclesiastes.

What’s your favorite book series?

It may not surprise you if you’ve been here long, but we absolutely love this Heroes series from @ywampublishing. They capture the attention of EVERY person in the family, without fail! That is not easy to do.

It’s Author Spotlight day for our little book crew, and this time, my kids selected Joseph Bruchac. He is an Indigenous author, and has written many beautiful children’s books. Here are just a few:

📖 The Story of the Milky Way
Joseph describes the traditional Cherokee legend of how the Milky Way came to be.

📖 Raccoon’s Last Race
A funny and energetic tale of Azban the Raccoon and how his pride got in the way.

📖 The First Strawberries
This Cherokee tale of how strawberries and other fruits had a purpose, is lyrically told.
