Home refresh with lighting 🏡

One of my favorite way to update a room is with new lighting. This semi flushmount is by Mitzi and I absolutely love it. This space is my office and a guest room so I wanted something that was both elegant and modern, and I think it’s perfect!

Bedding

As part of my home refresh I ordered the Quince Gingham Duvet set in Olive Green. It’s soft and very nice quality for much less than luxe brands like Piglet in Bed.
It came with matching pillow cases (not shown here). Gingham is a classic, versatile style. I love the way it looks with the peel and stick wallpaper I used!

Whimsical Dresses

Today I am sharing summer dresses with some arm coverage. I am wearing Farm Rio on my summer vacation in Montana (previous season).
Farm Rio is a favorite of mine. I’ve also included dresses from Tuckernuck, Boden, and higher-end options from Doen and Ulla Johnson. These are my personal favorites; the brands I shop for my dresses, over and over.

Grand Teton in Wyoming is one of my favorite national parks, in part because it has lovely lake swimming. And those views! 😍 This is Jackson Lake; as you can hear I was surprised how warm it was!

I wore this quilted jacket in Ireland and it kept me cosy and dry. I’m tagging the best by Barbour — a couple are on my wishlist!

I sometimes size up on Barbour; it depends on the style. So take note of any sizing recommendations.

Farewell London! 🇬🇧
I always wear layers for long travel days. A t-shirt is the bottom layer, in case it’s warm on the plane, then a sweater or sweatshirt and in this case my bulkiest coat because there wasn’t room to pack it. I also travel with a cashmere sweater or scarf (lightweight but warm) which is atop my suitcase handle here. It’s great for around my neck or as a makeshift blanket.

My “travel pants” feel like yoga pants, stretchy with an elastic waistband, but look like trousers.

I travel with two small roller bags because I find they are easier to maneuver, lift etc. than one large heavy suitcase. My husband had my other. This one is expandable; it’s fantastic!

TIP: The London tube goes right to Heathrow airport so that’s what we did. Many stations have escalators, some have elevators. Plan accordingly depending how much luggage you have.

Spring travel outfits.
A nice alternative to a blazer or jean jacket is a work jacket, also called a barn coat. This was the perfect layer with temps in the 60s or low 70s. And the boxy cut makes it easy to layer underneath.

I love this butter yellow color for spring. 🌼

Even with great weather on my spring trip to the UK, I needed layers. Here, I wore a black cashmere sweater with a favorite blazer on top. I love this pub-striped beauty by Smythe. It’s many years old so I am linking similar options but a couple of favorite brands.

White sneakers were in order for a day of walking — we went 18,000 steps! And I had a light packable raincoat in my tote bag, just in case.

Favorite Denim

My favorite affordable denim is by Levi’s and they are on sale — 30% off most styles until Sunday!
No need to spend $200 on cute jeans!
I am wearing Levi’s 502 Taper Fit (they’re actually a men’s style but Levi’s are essentially unisex) in black.

I do find Levi’s sizing varies by style. I typically size up one waist size. One of the things I love about Levi’s is they are stocked in multiple lengths. These come in 30, 32 and 34. Mine pictured are 32 length but I could have gone with 30.
Some styles come in 28 which is ankle length.

I am tagging some of my other favorite styles below.

For a high-rise style I love the Ribcage Straight Ankle — size up one size.

Another great style for women is the 501 90s mid rise. I actually sized down in these.

If you’re a GenX gal like me, you probably owned Levi’s at some point. I cherished my 501 red tab, button fly as a 16 yo.💙

I love packing neutrals for travel. They are so easy to mix and match. My current favorite pant style for travel (somewhere warmish) is a crop pant with a slightly wide leg. So flattering. Mine are by Rag & Bone. I’m sharing similar styles.

Ahead of my recent safari to Africa I ordered prescription sunglasses from Warby Parker. While I normally wear contacts, the morning game drive can be as early as 5:30 am. 🥱 I decided I’d rather skip that part of my routine but wanted my view of the wildlife to be crystal clear. 🦒🦁🐘

This is my 3rd pair of Warby Parkers and I just love them. They have a wonderful selection of styles and colors. Mine are a beautiful green called Rosemary Quartz. And the service is fantastic.

Travel Outfit
My first trip to Ireland was chilly but glorious. I packed everything pictured here and traveled carry-on only. It was an 8-day family trip and our rental car (and its trunk) were smallish and had to accommodate 4 people’s bags. These capsule items (and a pint in the pub) kept me cozy on the many grey, windy days. We visited in late June and it was unseasonably cold. In hindsight I should have taken one warmer sweater and left the shorts and white blazer at home.

When I travel I only take my tried and true makeup favorites because I don’t want to carry a lot of products, multiple shadows etc. I keep it simple; one look for day and one for evening, (I am wearing the evening look here with two eyeshadows ). I’ve linked all those makeup favorites. 💋 BTW - I have sensitive eyes and love the Ilia gel liner. My hero product for all-day wear.

The building that I walked by in Paris and couldn’t name is Les Invalides. It contains multiple buildings, a museum of military history as well as the Dôme des Invalides, a chapel where Napoleon Bonaparte’s tomb is located. It’s worth a visit if you are interested in French military history. Not my favorite by any stretch. The tomb chapel is quite striking.
