The Kaymoor Mine Trail in New River Gorge is one of those hikes that perfectly blends history and adventure. It drops you straight into the story of the old coal mining days — with nearly 800 steps leading down to the remains of the Kaymoor Mine and processing plant hidden deep in the gorge. It’s definitely a leg burner coming back up, but totally worth it for the views, the eerie quiet of the forest, and the feeling of walking through a piece of West Virginia history. FYI: These clips were taken late October last year! 📍Trail Details Distance: ~3.6 miles round trip Elevation gain: ~800 feet Rated: Strenuous (those stairs!) Tip: Bring water — you’ll need it for the climb back out. NewRiverGorge WestVirginiaHikes usnationalparks AppalachianAdventures
