‼️Comment below “SPONGE” for toxinfree dish sponges and toxinfree dish soaps we love and use!⤵️⤵️⤵️

You know those bright yellow & green kitchen sponges we all have by the sink? Well… every time we scrub a cup or rinse a pan, they’re actually shedding microplastics — teeny, invisible plastic particles — right onto our dishes. ❌

💡 Studies have found that a single sponge can release ‼️tens of thousands of microplastic particles every time it’s used. And one study estimated that the average household sponge can release up to 1.5 million microplastic fragments per day if you wash dishes often.

‼️Every time we scrub a pan or rinse a cup, those sponges actually shed tiny microplastic fibers — so small we can’t see them — and they end up sticking to our dishes or washing down the drain. 🙈

Researchers found that the friction and hot water break down the synthetic material (usually polyurethane or polyester), so bits of it flake off. That means we’re not just cleaning our dishes… we might be adding invisible plastic dust to them.

🎉Thankfully there are easy cleaner swaps to natural cellulose sponges and loofah scrubbers!

The most worrisome sunscreen active ingredient is OXYBENZONE, according to publicly available scientific research.

It is readily absorbed through the skin and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found higher levels of oxybenzone in bloodstream of those who regularly apply sunscreen.

❌It causes allergic skin reactions, behaves like a hormone disruptor and may be more harmful to children as they are more susceptible to the effects of chemicals.

❌In an evaluation of CDC-collected exposure data for American children, researchers found that adolescent boys with higher oxybenzone measurements had lower total testosterone levels.”

‼️Ever wonder why foods and grease don’t soak through most paper plates? 👀

It’s usually because they’re coated with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)— a class of synthetic “forever chemicals” designed to repel oil and water.

‼️Here’s what the research shows:

* PFAS create a grease-resistant barrier, which is why oily foods don’t leak through paper plates, wrappers, or fast-food packaging.

But…

* Multiple studies (including those published in “Environmental Science & Technology” and by the CDC have found that PFAS can migrate from food packaging into food ESPECIALLY when food is hot, greasy, or acidic!🙈

❌PFAS are called “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment or the human body.

Major concerns?⤵️

❌Hormone (endocrine) disruption
❌Immune system suppression (reduced vaccine response)
❌Increased cholesterol levels
❌Liver toxicity
❌Thyroid disease
❌Increased risk of certain cancers (kidney, testicular)

Because these chemicals bioaccumulate, small repeated exposures — like using grease-resistant paper plates — can add up over

✅Better options?
-uncoated paper products
-compostable PFAS-free plates
- leadfree reusable dishware especially for hot or fatty foods.

So I realized this post UPDATE is necessary because a few toxinfree options surprisingly tested for lead and heavy metals. I removed them from the clean list but didn’t add them to the avoid list in case they reformulate and share their findings. I will update if any other findings are released. Note some products recommended are the cleanest of their brand.

⤵️If you have specific brand questions you can ask in comments and I will let you know if they indeed tested positive.

I think you have a right to know what’s in all your children’s products, especially when they’re labeled “clean”, “nontoxic” etc!

Also, as you see none of the options I added contain f!uride but I will discuss this at another time!

‼️For toxinfree tween and teen options, comment below “DEODORANT” and I will send best options your way⤵️⤵️⤵️

Just because it says natural, gentle, or clean doesn’t mean it’s truly safe — especially for kids and teens. ❌❌❌

Many popular deodorants still contain ingredients linked to endocrine disruption, skin irritation, and toxic buildup over time.

Here are some that look clean but aren’t:
❌Native – Aluminum-free, but still loaded with synthetic fragrance/parfum, which can act as hormone disruptors.
❌Megababe Rosy Pits – Cute and “natural,” yet still uses hidden fragrance blends that rate moderate on toxicity scales.
❌Secret Invisible Solid – Aluminum salts and synthetic fragrance; can irritate young, sensitive underarms.
❌Degree Clinical Protection – Very high aluminum levels; too harsh for growing teens.
❌Dove Dry Spray – Marketed as “gentle,” but includes aluminum and aerosol propellants.
❌Mitchum Roll-On – One of the highest aluminum concentrations on the market.
❌Brut Stick – Contains propylene glycol, dyes, and triclosan — not ideal for anyone, let alone kids.

What to Look For Instead:
✅ Fragrance-free (no “parfum”)
✅ Aluminum-free & paraben-free
✅ EWG-verified or dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin
✅ Simple ingredients — coconut oil, magnesium, or zinc-based formulas

‼️First the avoid ingredients list! Save this list to check your labels and help you on your next shopping trip:

❌Chlorine bleach: Found in laundry detergents, toilet bowl cleaners, and disinfectants.
❌Ammonia: Present in glass cleaners, floor cleaners, and some bathroom cleaners.
❌Phthalates: Often used as fragrance ingredients in air fresheners and some cleaning products.
❌Triclosan: Found in antibacterial soaps, dishwashing detergents, and surface cleaners.
❌Formaldehyde: Sometimes used in furniture polishes and carpet cleaners.
❌Volatile organic compounds (VOCs): Common in air fresheners, aerosol sprays, and certain cleaners.
❌methylisothiazoline
❌phenoxyethanol

✨make sure they say “1,4-dioxane free” which is a chemical compound that is sometimes found as a contaminant in certain household cleaning and personal care products. It is not intentionally added but can be a byproduct of other ingredients or manufacturing processes
artificial fragrance

Which brands tend to include these ingredients that WE personally avoid:
-Clorox
-Pledge
-Windex
-Simple green
-Palmolive
-Cascade
-Lysol
-Dawn
-Seventh generation
-Mrs meyers
-Babyganics

‼️Comment below “Baby” for the list of clean baby products including diaper cream⤵️⤵️⤵️

Why it matters to choose cleaner products for baby?

➡️Baby skin is thinner & more absorbent than adult skin — meaning chemicals penetrate more easily.

Conventional creams may contain parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, or petroleum by-products — all of which can irritate sensitive skin or disrupt hormones.

Diaper area is warm and moist, which increases chemical absorption and the risk of irritation.

Toxin-free formulas use safe barriers like zinc oxide, shea butter, and natural oils that soothe without questionable additives.

Choosing cleaner options means less exposure to allergens, endocrine disruptors, and unnecessary chemicals during a baby’s most vulnerable stage!

‼️For a complete list of completely safe & toxinfree body sunscreen, comment “SUN” below and I will send list your way!⤵️⤵️⤵️

The use of sunscreen is controversial so this post isn’t about whether or not we need sunscreen and more about WHICH ones to grab if you DO opt to use sunscreen 🙌🏼

Especially for kids!!! Children are much more sensitive to toxins in products so reading labels is crucial here!

Make sure the sunscreen you are using, especially for your kids, it’s free of adult toxins to really reap the benefits of sunscreen! I will talk about the daily recommended SPF in a different post, I just wanted to highlight the specific brand that we should avoid!

I specifically want to highlight these two:

❌Oxybenzone- because this is the heavy hitter that’s destroying coral reefs. If it’s destroying our coral reefs... think about what it’s doing to you.

❌Retinyl Palmitate- toxin causes photosensitivity when exposed to the sun, so it’s literally doing the exact opposite of what sunscreen is supposed to do!!

⤵️For a complete list of completely safe & toxinfree body sunscreen, comment “SUN” below and I will send list your way!!
“But it’s the ONLY product that’s worked for my skin so whatever!” 🙈 Yes but at what cost?!

This brand is filled with toxic ingredients and fillers that build up toxicity over time and just shouldn’t be on your skin!

These toxins increase inflammation, clog pores, and lead to chronic sensitivity over time. When your barrier is damaged, your skin becomes more reactive, dehydrated, breakout-prone, and ages faster long term.😢

A lot of viral products give temporary results while quietly creating problems underneath the surface.

‼️What’s worse is younger and younger teens are using these products which can cause health & hormone issues.

Just because it’s approved by some doesn’t make it superior to other products for skin health. There ARE cleaner options!

⤵️⤵️⤵️ Comment below “SKIN” for nontoxic skincare recommendations that actually work!

#nontoxic #cleanbeauty #toxinfree #nontoxicskincare #nontoxicliving
‼️Comment below “clothes” for links to cleaner brands and clothing⤵️⤵️⤵️

These common fabrics are actually synthetic materials that shed microplastics every time they’re washed or worn:

• Polyester → plastic (PET) petroleum based!😠
• Nylon → synthetic polymer
• Acrylic → plastic-based fake wool
• Spandex/Elastane → polyurethane plastic
• Fleece → brushed polyester
• Faux leather & faux fur → usually PU, PVC, acrylic, or polyester

Even “natural” clothes can hide plastics:
🧵 Cotton jeans with elastane
🧦 Wool socks with nylon
👕 Recycled polyester still sheds microplastics

Avoid labels that promote:
❌“performance,”
❌“stretch,”
❌“moisture-wicking” usually mean synthetic fibers.

Worst offenders are workout clothes! If you make one clothing swap opt for clean materials for your workout clothes!

🎉Better natural-fiber options:
✔ Cotton
✔ Linen
✔ Hemp
✔ Wool
✔ Silk
 Organic whenever possible!

‼️Comment below “SOAP” for list to cleaner dish soap options⤵️⤵️⤵️

Your dishes should be clean — not coated in questionable chemicals. 🫧

❌❌❌Ingredients to avoid in dish soap:
• Fragrance/parfum — can hide dozens of undisclosed chemicals
• SLS/SLES — harsh surfactants that may irritate skin
• Triclosan — linked to hormone and environmental concerns
• Dyes & synthetic colors — unnecessary and potentially irritating
• Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives — associated with sensitivity and toxicity concerns

Even some of the cleaner marketed brands sadly use some of these🙈

Look for simple ingredient lists, plant-based surfactants, and transparent labeling instead. 🌿

‼️Comment below “DISHES” for toxinfree dishwasher detergent pods we love if you don’t want to make your own!⤵️⤵️⤵️

Why we ditched plastic wrapped pods: It’s made from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) — a synthetic plastic.

❌Studies show up to 75% of PVA doesn’t fully break down after water treatment and can persist as microplastics.

❌Each pod releases 12–52 microplastic particles per wash cycle.

Over 75 million U.S. households use automatic dishwashers. If even 10% use pods daily, that’s:
~7.5 million pods/day
At 12–52 particles per pod, that’s:
90 to 390 million microplastic particles released daily just in the U.S.🙈

Emerging research shows microplastics drastically impact human health causing:

‼️Oxidative stress — linked to aging and chronic disease
‼️Inflammation — a root cause of many illnesses
‼️Hormonal disruption — affecting fertility, metabolism, and even child development

Microplastics have been found in:

🫁Lungs
💉 Blood
💩 Stool
🍼 Even in placentas!!!

The scary part? These particles can act as carriers for toxins, heavy metals, and bacteria.

This isn’t about whether EOs work or don’t work (although I’d love to hear your stance!) but more about the QUALITY of the product!

But first: EOs are volatile compounds extracted from plants that contribute to their characteristic aromas and flavors.

While natural essential oils are typically derived from botanical sources through processes like steam distillation or cold pressing, synthetic essential oils can also be produced in laboratories.

These synthetic essential oils are created by chemists using various chemical components, some of which may be derived from petroleum❌❌❌❌

Through careful chemical manipulation, scientists can replicate the aromatic profiles of natural essential oils using petroleum-derived components.

How to pick completely toxinfree untampered oils?⤵️

✅opt for organic whenever possible: “The main difference between organic and non-organic essential oils is that organic producers use a farming technique that avoids or reduces the use of pesticides and fertilizers , ensuring that only clean natural substances are used on the plant.”

❌avoid brands that only claim to be “therapeutic grade” or “all natural” or “pure”

Did you know that the global shampoo market is a multi-billion dollar industry?!? 😳

In 2020 the global shampoo market was valued at around 30 billion U.S. dollars and is projected to reach approximately 38 billion U.S. dollars by 2026!!!

⤵️Here’s why it matters:

On average, people use about 10 to 30 milliliters (or 0.34 to 1 fluid ounce) of shampoo per wash. This amount can vary depending on hair length, thickness, and personal preference.

 ➡️According to a survey conducted by the International Journal of Trichology, about 50% of respondents reported washing their hair at least three times a week.

Shampoo ingredients: Shampoos typically contain a combination of cleansing agents, conditioning agents, fragrances, preservatives, and other additives.

Some of these ingredients are SO toxic that they cause multitude of health issues!

❌parabens
❌undisclosed fragrances

I’ve left my hair alone for the past 4 years though because of THIS👇🏻(and have found cleaner options for you below!)

 Hair dyes can contain various chemicals that may be considered toxic or harmful in certain circumstances. Some of the most concerning ingredients in hair dyes include:

1. Why I quit conventional products- see the list of ingredients they all contain:

❌Para-phenylenediamine: linked to cancers and cell damage in animals. PPD is actually not approved for products that come in contact with skin...but somehow it is still used in many mainstream hair dyes.

❌Formaldehyde: Preservative & carcinogen linked to developmental delays and endocrine disruption.

❌Ammonia: corrosive and irritates mucus membranes. Can cause respiratory discomfort and lung irritation.

❌DMDM Hydantoin: this ingredient releases formaldehyde over time

❌Coal tar: Heavy metal contamination

❌ 1. Fragrance (Parfum)
Hides toxic chemicals like phthalates.
Linked to hormone disruption, allergies, and migraines.
❌ 2. Parabens
Look for: methylparaben, propylparaben, etc.
Mimics estrogen — linked to breast cancer and hormone imbalance.
❌ 3. Phenoxyethanol
Can cause skin irritation and nervous system issues, especially in infants.
❌ 4. PEGs / Polyethylene Glycol
May contain 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen.
Also makes skin absorb more toxins.
❌ 5. Mineral Oil / Petrolatum
Derived from petroleum.
May be contaminated with cancer-causing compounds and clogs pores.

‼️Comment below “RAZOR” for toxinfree razor options as well as cleaner shaving cream⤵️⤵️⤵️

Did you know those little blue or green strips on razors aren’t just “moisture”?

They’re usually a mix of ❌plastics, ❌silicones, ❌PEGs, ❌dyes and ❌synthetic fragrance — and they melt a little every time you shave 😳

That means tiny amounts of chemical residue can end up right where your skin is most sensitive.

Some even contain trace contaminants like 1,4-dioxane from PEG processing. Not exactly what you want sliding into micro-cuts!

Also. the chemicals in the strips can get into our lymphatic system and into our capillaries, especially if we accidentally cut ourselves. Also, hot water opens up our pores which allows these toxins to enter even faster!!

And most of us started shaving young as do our daughters. So be careful with your kids’ shaving razors too!

‼️Comment below “PLATES” for the list of leadfree plates, bowls and kitchen products without lead ⤵️⤵️⤵️

First why does it matter?!⤵️

“Lead builds up in the body, which means that long-term exposure of even low levels of lead can have negative health effects such as depression, constipation, high blood pressure, reduced fertility, kidney disease, and a plethora of other issues in adults, according to the CDC”

“There are no safe levels of lead, Consumers should be vigilant and not only consider checking their blood levels for lead, but their water, too, which can be a significant source of exposure”

“A 2018 study published in The Lancet found that nearly 30 percent of premature cardiovascular disease deaths in the United States may be due to lead exposure. The study followed 14,300 people for nearly 20 years. People with high levels of lead in their blood had a 70 percent greater risk of death by cardiovascular disease, and a 37 percent greater risk of premature death for any cause.”

❌Avoid
* antique or vintage plates
* Choose plain white or minimally decorated dishware
* Look for “lead-free” or food-safe labels
* Don’t use chipped or cracked plates
* Be cautious with handmade or imported ceramics

Especially since there are some awesome brands committed to providing quality products and regularly test for heavy metals!

‼️Comment below “SWAP” for cleaner flatware options and link⤵️⤵️⤵️

What does that “18/10” really mean? ⤵️

-18% chromium (rust resistance)
-10% nickel** (shine + durability)

⚠️ Why we need to ditch nickel in flatware?

Nickel is a heavy metal that can:

-Trigger allergies (rashes, irritation)
-Affect sensitive individuals more
-Build up with repeated exposure over time

Heavy metals don’t break down easily—they can accumulate over time and can affect:
🧠 Brain & nervous system effects
🧬 Hormone disruption
🛑 Organ stress (kidneys, liver)
⚡ Inflammation & oxidative stress

 🔪 Why old/scratched utensils are worse

-Heat, dishwashing, and wear increase breakdown
-More nickel can leach into food

Biggest triggers for leaching

* Tomato sauce
* Citrus
* Vinegar
* Hot, salty foods

---

 ✅Better options? Look for:

-18/0 stainless steel (no nickel)
-Wood/bamboo (great for kids)

‼️Crazy but research studies reveals that new clothes can be LOADED with toxic chemicals, bacteria, and even fecal matter!!!

❌Toxic Chemicals- Studies found carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and formaldehyde (up to 900x safe limits!).

❌Bacteria & Fecal Matter- Clothing tested had E. coli, staph, and bodily secretions from factory handling and fitting rooms.

❌Pesticides & PFAS- Skin absorbs residues from synthetic
dyes, pesticides, and stain-resistant treatments.

🙈So nasty! Best recommendation?

Wash new clothes with hot water and TOXINFREE✅ detergent to cleanse from toxins and avoid adding new toxins in

✅Avoid wrinkle-free or stain-resistant fabrics-they’re often

Most laundry detergents leave chemical residues on clothes — and we & our kids wear, sleep, and breathe those fabrics all day.

Conventional detergents often contain synthetic fragrances, dyes, and harsh preservatives that can irritate skin, trigger allergies, and disrupt hormones.

👶Babies and children are especially sensitive because their skin and detox systems are still developing.

Thankfully there are MUCH cleaner options😍

‼️Comment below “COFFEE” for a list of the cleanest coffee brands and coffee makers⤵️⤵️⤵️

Here’s what makes these brands toxic⤵️

❌Mold & mycotoxins
Coffee beans are agricultural products, and like grains, they can develop mold during:

* humid growing conditions
* poor storage or shipping
* improper drying

Some molds produce mycotoxins (like ochratoxin A). These are harmful in high amounts and are not safe for humans.

❌Pesticides & chemicals
Conventionally grown coffee may be treated with:

* pesticides
* herbicides
* fungicides
Residue can remain on coffee beans.

❌Processing contamination
Lower-quality or mass-produced coffee can pick up issues from:

* poor-quality water during processing
* unsanitary equipment
* long storage times leading to degradation

Cheap coffee often uses lower-grade beans (Robusta or damaged Arabica) which are more likely to:

 * have mold exposure
 * be over-roasted (to hide defects)
 * sit in storage longer

Over-roasting can also create compounds like acrylamide❌

 🌱Tip: look for⤵️
“toxin-free” or “mold-free” coffee brands that:

* test for mycotoxins
* source higher-quality beans
* use better drying/storage methods
* often sell single-origin or specialty-grade coffee

‼️Comment below “MILK” for a list to the cleanest baby formulas to look for⤵️⤵️⤵️

Findings from Consumer Reports and Lead Safe Mama showed that some formulas tested ✅low or non-detect for heavy metals— which is incredibly important, because even small exposures to metals like lead or arsenic can impact a baby’s developing brain over time.

‼️But here’s the full picture 👇
Some of those same formulas, especially from CR, while low in heavy metals, still contained ❌processed additives, ❌questionable oils, or ❌lower-quality ingredients— which is why i didn’t include them in second list

And another piece to consider 🤍
All experts know that breastfeeding is always the best option. If breastfeeding is an option for you, it can be a powerful way to nourish your baby without these concerns.

➡️Supply is often built through frequent feeding, skin-to-skin contact, staying hydrated, and proper latch/support.

Introducing formula too early because worried baby isn’t eating enough signals your body to produce less milk and eventually it’ll stop altogether.

In the end, whatever you choose, babies rely on what they’re fed every day, so both avoiding contaminants and choosing high-quality nutrition supports their growth and development.

‼️comment below “BOARD” for links to safe & toxinfree cutting boards⤵️⤵️⤵️

➡️Please ditch your plastic cutting boards!! Plastic cutting boards can pose health risks due to the release of microplastics during food preparation.

When chopping or slicing, small plastic particles can be generated and potentially ingested, leading to health concerns.
(ACS.ORG)

Plastic boards can develop deep grooves from knife use, which may harbor bacteria and are difficult to clean effectively. Yuck! (FSIS.USDA.GOV)

While wooden cutting boards are often favored for their durability and knife-friendly surfaces, it’s important to be aware that not all wooden boards are created equal. ⤵️

‼️Some may contain glues or finishes that are not food-safe, potentially leading to health concerns.

‼️Many wooden cutting boards are constructed by bonding multiple pieces of wood together using adhesives which are toxic to humans!

‼️Finishes and Paints: Some boards may be treated with finishes or paints containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or toxic dyes. These substances can leach into food during preparation, posing health risks.

‼️NOT dishwasher safe!!

🎉Thankfully there ARE cleaner dishwasher safe options! Comment below “BOARD” for safer boards I use!

‼️Comment below “CLEAN” for toxinfree all-purpose cleaners⤵️⤵️⤵️

Some cleaning chemicals may remain in the home environment (air, dust, or surfaces).

Potential long-term concerns include:
❌hormone disruption
❌neurological effects
❌possible organ damage from certain chemicals

Children, especially, are vulnerable to the toxic effects of these cleaners.

Because children spend a lot of time indoors and close to the floor, their exposure levels can be higher than adults.

In fact, some research suggests that exposure to household chemicals may influence early brain development.

A study of young children found that frequent use of toxic household cleaners was associated with lower language and cognitive scores by age two.

Higher exposure to household chemicals correlated with decreases in language and cognition.

Scientists believe this may happen because toxic compounds can affect developing brain cells and neural connections.

For such an easy swap, it’s just not worth it!

I mean how toxic can a product with TWO ingredients be??⤵️⤵️⤵️

❌grapefruit seed extract ❌
It sounds innocent and even healthy! But what is it really??
Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is a substance derived from the seeds, pulp, and white membranes of grapefruits. The problem??
It contains traces of benzalkonium chloride → which is toxic!!

➡️“Regarding acute toxicology data, BACs are classified by the EPA as toxicity category lI by the oral and inhalation routes and toxicity category Ill via the dermal route (3). They are also considered to be highly irritating to the eyes and skin (toxicity category l) (3). . Considerable cell toxicity was observed in vitro for human ocular cells exposed to BAC concentrations as low as 0.0001% (22).”
(https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6581159/)

❌I would never recommend these products to any mom for their kiddos! It destroys our cells. And remember, we tend to use the wipes for much more!

🎉The good news is there are some great completely clean options!

3. Aluminum kettles
4. Glass & stainless steel not tested for lead
5. Glazed shiny kettles

✅Cleanest options✅
