Builders really love leaving random awkward spaces with absolutely no purpose… so I turned ours into hidden shoe storage + a functional drop zone instead. 👏🏼

Honestly, making these “dead spaces” feel intentional is one of the biggest things that makes a home feel more custom and high-end without a full renovation.

The best part? It actually functions better for our family now too. Shoes, clutter, and random chaos finally have a place to go. 🙃

Your kitchen doesn’t need a full renovation to feel custom. 👏🏼

I used DIY faux reed detail, dark paint, and a few high-end looking hardware upgrades to completely change this builder-grade island for a fraction of the cost of custom cabinetry.

Honestly… the details are what make a home feel expensive.

These are the kinds of DIY upgrades that completely change how a home feels without a full renovation 👏🏼

From faux reeded doors to simple trim molding tricks, these are the details that make builder-grade spaces feel custom and expensive.

And for the wallpaper feature wall, I actually used AI to preview the idea before committing to it 😅

The pressure of designing a room they won’t outgrow overnight is real.

I'm not buying anything I have to replace a season or 2 later... These have lasted 5+ years!

The Walmart set went viral for a reason... it's such a great value!

Polywood speaks for itself... it will likely outlast us!

The planters are also gorgeous, and being Frontgate they're high quality. I found mine at the outlet, but here's the link!

I just recently added the Walmart outdoor rug, but it was too good not to share so stay tuned on the durability!

I know it’s fun picking out tile and paint colors, but the prep is so important! If he prep it right, the job will be so much easier. Here’s everything I recommend…

How to do this $40 DIY door upgrade without taking the door down 👇

A lot of you asked if this would work on a door still on the hinges, so I tested it. It does — and here’s the full process I used:

1. Measure the flat recessed panels you want to cover on the existing door.
You want the hardboard insert sized to fit those center areas cleanly.

2. Cut hardboard/MDF panels to those measurements.
You can cut them yourself or have the store cut them for you.

3. Cut picture frame molding for the trim border around each panel.
Use a miter saw or even a simple miter box if that’s what you have.

4. Assemble each new panel first off the door so you’re not trying to build it vertically.
I attached the molding to the hardboard panel using instant bond glue + activator to make assembly faster and easier.

5. Prime everything.
I primed the assembled panels before installing them so I wasn’t trying to get full coverage after they were already attached.

6. Caulk the seams/gaps on the assembled panels for a cleaner finished look.
This step makes a huge difference once painted.

7. De-gloss / prep the door surface before attaching anything.
You want the existing door finish cleaned and scuffed so the new panel adheres better.

8. Use the same instant bond glue + activator on the door to attach the finished panels while the door is still hanging.
That was the part everyone asked about — and yes, this is how I made it work without removing the door.

9. Press panels into place carefully and check alignment with level before fully committing.
Since the door is vertical, you want to be intentional here.

10. Final caulk + paint touchups once installed so it looks seamless and built in.

That’s it. Same upgrade, same look — just adapted for a door that stayed up the whole time.

Save this for when you’re ready to make a builder-grade door look custom.

So excited for this bathroom transformation! Balancing timeless while still having fun in a kids bathroom can be challenging, but I think we nailed it!

I was convinced these pavers were permanently ruined…
Nothing I tried touched this mildew.

Then I tried this—and it literally started disappearing in seconds.

No pressure washer.
No scrubbing.
No hours wasted.

I wish I knew this sooner because this shows up EVERY year.

👉🏻 Save this so you’re not starting from scratch next time.

Birds kept rebuilding in this exact spot… over and over 😅

And I wasn’t about to cover my porch in those ugly spikes.

Nobody panic! The nest with eggs went back up. The other nest got a simple fix that actually blends in—and they haven’t come back since 🙌

If you’ve got this same builder-grade gap, this is SUCH an easy upgrade.
POV: you tried to “save money” by skipping demo…

and it turned into this 😅

I really thought I could just:
✔️ update a few things
✔️ keep the tile
✔️ avoid the mess

…yeah, no.

One dropped drill → cracked toilet
Pulled the floor → years of moisture damage
Next thing I know… we’re gutting the entire bathroom

Honestly though?
This is exactly how most “quick updates” go 🙃

Your shower hardware doesn’t need to be replaced… just upgraded 👀

I used Krud Kutter + sanding + automotive primer + Rustoleum to completely transform these shower fixtures—and it cost a fraction of replacing them.

If you’ve been wondering how to spray paint shower fixtures or do a bathroom hardware upgrade on a budget, this is exactly what worked for me.

1. Clean
Use Krud Kutter (or a degreaser) to remove ALL grime, soap scum, and residue

2. Sand
Lightly sand everything (220–320 grit) to dull the finish so paint can stick

3. Rinse + Dry
Wipe clean and let it fully dry—no dust or moisture

4. Tape + Prep Area
Cover surrounding tile/walls and protect anything nearby

5. Automotive Primer
Spray light, even coats (2–3 coats)
Let dry between coats

6. Light Sand (optional)
If it feels rough, lightly sand before paint

7. Spray Paint (Rustoleum)
Apply multiple LIGHT coats (don’t try to cover in one pass)

8. Cure Time
Let it fully cure before using (at least 24–48 hrs, longer = better durability)

This bathroom smelled like mildew no matter what we did… and it was driving me insane.

At first I thought it just needed a deep clean.
It didn’t.

It was a combination of things most people don’t think about:

• The walls were holding onto buildup and moisture — scrubbed with Krud Kutter
• The grout had mildew deep inside it — scrubbed with RMR-86
• The glass shower door track was trapping EVERYTHING 🤢
• The exhaust fan wasn’t doing its job (huge issue) — replaced with a fantastic and quiet new one
• And yes… even the P-trap can hold odor —easy to replace

Once we addressed those, it finally started to feel like a completely different space.

And the best part?
We didn’t rip anything out.

No new tile. No full renovation. Just fixing the real problems first.

It’s already dramatically better—and we haven’t even touched the cosmetic updates yet 👀

Next step: updating everything WITHOUT replacing the tile (this is where it gets good)

Follow along if you want to see how far we can push this on a budget.

My son’s 20 year old bathroom was GROSSSSS. While updating/refreshing the builder grade nightmare, the first step was getting rid of the mildew and grime literally everywhere. The smell was so bad! These things worked a literal miracle!

#LTKHome
I use all of these for nearly every project, and I have to say buying quality tools makes DIY a whole lot easier.

#LTKHome
Most people leave these plain. I wouldn’t.

This is the same basic builder-grade drawer — just framed with split dowels for a more finished, custom look.

No new drawers.
No cabinet replacement.

Just a small detail that makes them feel more high-end.

Don’t spend hundreds replacing your door! Give it a makeover! Find the tutorial on my Instagram and grab these few supplies.

Use the D7 trim for a lower/thinner trim profile, and use the base cap molding if you like something thicker. I used the D7 for this door.

If you don’t have a saw, you can have the store you bought it at cut the MDF panel for you for free!

Expensive homes don’t feel different because of the furniture or artwork — it’s the details that make the biggest difference. Nothing is overlooked.

This hallway originally felt very builder-grade, but with a few intentional upgrades we were able to completely change how it feels without replacing anything major.

Here’s exactly what we did 👇

1️⃣ Updated the doors & trim
Instead of replacing the doors, we kept the originals and added more character with updated casing. Then everything was painted Sherwin-Williams Dovetail in Emerald Enamel for a durable, furniture-like finish.

2️⃣ Defined the space with color
Painting the doors and casings the same color creates contrast and makes the hallway feel more architectural. Btw if you paint the casing, you don’t have to paint the baseboards and crown too!

3️⃣ Added peek & stick wallpaper from Amazon for texture
A simple wallpaper instantly gives the space pattern and depth so it doesn’t feel like a pass-through hallway anymore.

4️⃣ Upgraded the hardware
Switching to brass hardware adds warmth and ties the details together.

5️⃣ Added layered lighting
The area felt dim, so I installed a cordless wall sconce. Now the space feels intentional and well lit without needing to run new wiring.

The trim is Sherwin-Williams Alabaster, which keeps everything light and balanced against the darker doors.

✨ Total cost for this hallway upgrade was around $500.

Everyone loves these club chairs and asks about them! They’re so comfy and they swivel, so they’re great for just about anywhere. Also that Wayfair couch is so affordable but I’m really impressed with the quality! We have a more expensive couch in the other room but find ourselves sitting on this one.

Your foyer should make a first impression — even on a tight budget.

I was honestly terrified to try wallpaper, and hiring it out wasn’t an option after just moving in.

So I went with a wall stencil instead — and it completely changed the space for about $32.

Paint your base color, roll on the stencil color, and you’re done.

This was my first time doing tile, and it was so much easier than I thought it would be! Plus these Villa Zellige Oat tiles from Floor & Decor are so affordable, but I can’t link them here. For the same look, you can get these super popular ones from Home Depot and Lowe’s.

#LTKHome
Most people replace these. I wouldn’t.

This is the same basic 90s 6-panel door — just framed out, paneled, and painted for about $40.

Use the ornamental molding if you don’t want something thick. Otherwise the base cap molding is great, but it won’t work well if you have a lever handle.

No replacement.
No new door.
No power tools required.

Paint color: @sherwinwilliams Iron Ore 🖤 (

I used base cap molding for this door, but on the gray doors I used a little bit thinner one (D7 from Home Depot), which is also linked.
