The Deerfield Room

This bunk room at our ranch sleeps 6 with a full size bed and 4 twin XLs. The dormer window will feature smokey blue painted shiplap with matching bunks. I linked everything except the plaid Euro pillows, as those are repurposed from a bedroom. ❤️

The Belmont Room

It’s still not final but so much progress!! I’m so proud of how far this room has come. The couch will eventually make its way to the farm and I will replace it with a brown sofa to coordinate with the rug. I’ve also learned that a room in my house is never, ever finished.

This room has several design aspects that challenged me. We’ve never had taxidermy in our living room. Allen’s pieces were always confined to his office. It took me a minute to balance the masculinity of his elk with my traditional but colorful style. It was hard to keep this room cheerful and not lean too far into the masculine. I love a moody room but I wanted our living room to reflect the whole family and I think it does!

This room also can’t be accurately centered due the fireplace’s proximity to doors and walkways, which challenged me to create a faux center. I love to fill a room with chairs, which can be toeing a fine line with cluttered. I think I balanced it well, squeezing in seating for 10. It feels beautiful but not stuffy and I hope it welcomes everyone who enters our home warmly.

The lodge at our farm is getting so close to completion!! I’m really digging in to finalize the furnishings. Here are the current selections for the kitchen and dining area 😍.

We didn’t have the budget for a gut job. It would have been easy to accomplish light and bright with new tile floors and a new tub surround but that wasn’t in the budget.

I found new hardware, lighting, and faucet on Amazon. I sought Micah and Co’s advice for cabinet paint selection and she recommended SW Accessible Beige. I worried it might be boring but it elevated and brightened the space so much!

I always strive to give my kids more compliments than critiques. Some days it feels like there is so much parenting and learning that the critiques come easier. I love to use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to focus on building my kids up.

Dad and I each do 7 hearts for each kid because let’s face it, those Dad compliments hit extra. It helps to write all the compliments at once. We keep a bag of hearts for each kid and tape one to their door after bedtime.

It’s an easy “craft,” if you can even call it that! You can create hearts on the computer and print on card-stock. This year, I went even easier and bought foam hearts and removed all crafting 🤣.

My sister makes the best stovetop popcorn. It’s so much better for you than the microwaveable bags but I wanted something safer for my kids to do themselves. This popcorn popper is it!! My kids had no problem using it and I don’t have to worry about a grease fire 😬.

It was so easy to use and even better, easy to clean!! We added butter and popcorn salt. It was delicious.

Pantry organization brings me joy every day. Our new pantry is cabinets and I knew I wanted it very functional so the kids could use it independently. Visibility was key. I’m actually surprised how easy this is to maintain and doesn’t take much time to restock!!

Christmas is officially down. Well, mostly. We have a few items in the front yard frozen in place due to this Arctic cold front. We were definitely becoming THOSE neighbors 😬.

Valentine’s Day decoration is pretty simple for me. I hang a few garlands on the fireplace. I add pink wreaths to the front door that transition easily to spring with a themed doormat. Valentine’s Day answers the design question of what wreaths are appropriate after Christmas but before spring!

This Sunday date night was incredibly cold with snow. We tried out Gordan Ramsey’s new restaurant in OKC so I wanted to dress up but not wear heels due to the snow. This outfit did the trick! Bonus I was still warm!

When collecting blue and white pieces, it’s so easy to be drawn to your favorite shape or size. The best collections add interest with a different pieces.

I use 1-2 large focal pieces to anchor the grouping. These will be the largest pieces and therefore mostly the most expensive. My two focal pieces are 24” and I elevated one for additional height.

I believe adding contrast to any type of design helps all the pieces to shine. I prefer to incorporate at least one piece with a dark blue background to make everything pop. I’m drawn to ginger or temple jars with their classic lids. I could buy them over and over but it’s important to have a variety of lid types and vases with no lids.

I’m a sucker for a pair. In this type of grouping I used two pieces of similar shape and size to create the effect of a pair but their differences peak interest.

Something green brings a design to life, literally if you use a live house plant. I used a white orchid but this can also be an opportunity to bring in a pop of color. Again, back to the beauty of contrast!!

Most blue and white pieces are smooth. I love adding some texture!! I linked some of my favorite blue and a great stool for height!

When we moved, we were coming from an Airbnb and I was so anxious to make our house feel like a home. I convinced myself a 10x14 would work in our space. At that time the couch was opposite the fireplace and the 14’ length worked for a couch plus end tables. Since then, I’ve rearranged and the couch now runs with the width of the rug. 10’ is not long enough for a couch and two end tables.

The next rug size is 12x15 which is HARD to find. I also think 15’ of any print would be a lot. I found this seagrass rug at Target in that size!!

I found this gorgeous blue wool rug to layer on it. It is lighter and brighter than the rug I previously had in the space. This opened up my options to bring in wood tones which I think are a necessary element in any room. Bonus to layering is that you get to size down in the expensive rug!

I love that this set works well together and with other pieces! The top and bottom have a relaxed fit and work great as loungewear. When I’m looking for a more polished look, I prefer one loose fitting item and one item with a more relaxed fit. It was so easy to pair the top or bottom with other items in my closet to create multiple looks.

It feels so good to be back in a creative space. We had a live Christmas tree in this space for the holidays. It was stunning but I’m so happy to put my foyer back together.

I tweaked my collection a little because one of the key pieces found a permanent home in another room. I added this melamine bowl as a new focal point to add interest. I’m fully embracing lamps this year so I added a lamp too. The final look feels so good to me and that’s what it’s all about right?!! I want my house to feel good and welcoming.
