Whenever I was feeling sick my grandmother would scramble me an egg, toast a slice of bread and serve up a small cup of applesauce on a tray. She swore hydration, rest and good plain food would get me back to feeling better.

Most of the time, it did. If I wasn’t feeling too bad we’d eat it on the back porch and she would tell me about the birds that were in the yard. Or talk to me about the flowers that were coming up.

There were hydrangeas and camellias. Giant red geraniums. Snapdragons and lantana. I’m sure there were plenty of times that she told me what flowers were out there, but for whatever reason I remember it most when we’d sit there in the quiet mornings eating breakfast on the porch.

Oddly, this makes me grateful for not feeling well those few times. It slowed down life and I was able to listen. Did your grandmother teach you about flowers or something else? I’d love to know what you learned from her!

School is starting back up soon for most, and I keep hearing from friends about their last travel hurrah of the summer season. There’s something so special about that last trip before kids get back into school. Somehow it feels like summer just began, but I remember it lasting for what felt like forever as a kid.

I’ll be taking a few end of summer trips soon, and wanted to put together a few looks that I could take with me. Each of these looks comes exclusively from @Saks and I’m highlighting my favorite skin care line that I can get there as well. It’s one of the best for making my skin glow, and after a full summer in head to to sunscreen- my skin needs a little extra attention.

Yesterday marked the thirteenth year without my cousin, Shawnie. We were born about a month apart, and that closeness in age meant we were often fighting over silly little things. Though the unwritten rule was if someone else wanted to come after us, we always had each others backs. One time in particular, I remember a new kid at school teasing my cousin for the way his clothes fit. The kid didn’t realize his clothes fit that way because Shawnie had cancer and would often experience major weight loss or bloating. Instead of walking away, I chose an abrupt way to quiet the kid then grabbed Shawnie to go. We’d later laugh at this and the look of shock across everyone’s face after that initial smack.

I’m sharing this as a reminder that we go through life seeing people different from us and rarely know the reason why. Sometimes that difference is physical and able to be seen, but often times it isn’t visible at all. Be gentle to those around you, and remember that everyone has a story. This holiday season is so wonderful and full of joy, but if you’re struggling this year know I’m thinking of you and sending a hug.

With Shawnie in mind, I chose architectural landmarks in Atlanta because he always wanted to be an architect. Don’t forget to look up from time to time (literally and metaphorically) and enjoy the life around you. You will find that there are some pretty cool things to see when you do!

While grabbing lunch with a friend recently, I was given some advice that has been living rent free in my mind ever since. Now, it can live with you also. We were talking about getting into relationships, but it’s just as applicable to friendships. Essentially she said to “be what you seek”. If you are searching for kindness, show it to others. If you want loyalty, get a good understanding of what that means and do likewise.

Tonight’s looks come from a request that involves a relationship heading to Ojai Valley, so I suppose that fits though I’m definitely leaning on my artistic license. I mostly just wanted to share that thought. What is something you seek that you personally want to work on? This might be something that you want to set for a new year’s resolution. Or not. Either way, those four words are now yours to sit on as well.

As mentioned in stories, I haven't felt well for a few days now. This meant I was in bed a lot, and fell completely out of my routine. Today was my first day feeling like myself, and all I wanted to do was get back into that routine.

Tonight's Princess Diaries Gift Guide is fitting, as it includes my AM/PM skincare routine, as well as hair and makeup for the days I need a little "Mia" transformation. I know the boards have a lot more verbiage than usual, but I'm writing up a complete page with this information for anyone needing help at the beauty counter. Before we had cable, we had VHS movies that my mom would pick up from the discount section. This meant that a lot of the movies came out before my time, and I'd watch them on repeat. You'd always be able to find a movie with Bette Midler (Beaches still makes me cry) or Diane Keaton (Who else loves Father of The Bride?). Add in Goldie Hawn, and you'd have one of my favorite movies: The First Wives Club.

I don’t exactly remember the first time I saw it, but I always knew I loved the way the women were smart and brave. I still love stories like this. When a main character finds their confidence and uses it. I get the opportunity to talk to many of you on a daily basis and hear stories of how you are finding your confidence in style, travel and even motherhood. If someone hasn’t told you this today: I’m proud of you. Keep your head up!

The first time I remember flying I was around ten. Growing up in a home with a single mom meant money was always tight, so flights weren't often. Each of us kids found little jobs around the neighborhood and saved until we could afford our flights to go to Washington D.C. I'm certain my babysitting money didn't fully cover my flight, but my mom made me feel important for being able to do that. She saw everything as a teaching moment and I'm so grateful for her.

I've taken many flights since that first one, and no longer feel that dip in my stomach when the plane takes off. Travel is a privilege I don't ever want to take for granted, and I hope to encourage each of you to travel in some form to a new place with new people and new experiences. Travel is a teaching moment as my mom would say.

Whether you fly, ride, or drive to your next destination these outfits should help you plan accordingly. Especially if you are the traveler with the request for the Eurostar. My grandaddy would've been 94 today and besides cooking, his love language was music. Some of my earliest memories include him singing and playing the piano to wake me up in the morning. He would pay me five cents a page to write the letter notes on his sheet music because his eyes couldn't see like they once had. His favorite music became my favorite music because he truly was my first best friend. If your grandparents are still alive, definitely give them a call. One day you'll miss hearing them sing, or whatever your special thing with them is. If you live near your grandparents, pop in on them and hug them extra for me. I'm sure they will love seeing you! There is a wealth of wisdom from previous generations and it's a privilege to learn from them.

While his love of music didn't exactly lean towards country music, it was fitting that tonight's request takes us to the Music City- Nashville, TN. If you've never been, make a point to visit at least once. It's a city that constantly has something new but never truly changes. They've got a great food scene, loads of amazing museums to explore, and music to dance to. I've created a mini guide to Nashville for the blog so you can pop over there and get recommendations for the city!

Fun fact: at fifteen I started teaching myself code to be able to make my LiveJournal look cool (no joke! haha) and so began my love for programming languages. We had just moved to Silicon Valley, the heart of tech world, and I was being homeschooled. It was the perfect opportunity to lean into a curiosity and learn everything I could. It's been a lifelong gift that has helped me tremendously, and I'm grateful that I was encouraged to do explore it.

So when a request came from an executive in the tech world I was beyond excited. It's the merger between two of my loves (tech and fashion) that make my job possible. I was also excited because this woman is in a position of influence in a very male dominated industry. If there are any mom's reading this who have daughters: encourage your girls to explore the sciences. The arts. All of it! To me there is nothing a woman can't accomplish and I work for a world where girls are encouraged to follow their passions.

The request for tonight takes us to Las Vegas, but not in the typical manor. Amazon is hosting the AWS re:Invent conference that brings in thousands from the global cloud computing community. Since the request includes meetings with other executives within the industry, I elevated the typical casual tech wardrobe with dressier pieces for a chic business casual style.
