The first time I remember flying I was around ten. Growing up in a home with a single mom meant money was always tight, so flights weren't often. Each of us kids found little jobs around the neighborhood and saved until we could afford our flights to go to Washington D.C. I'm certain my babysitting money didn't fully cover my flight, but my mom made me feel important for being able to do that. She saw everything as a teaching moment and I'm so grateful for her. I've taken many flights since that first one, and no longer feel that dip in my stomach when the plane takes off. Travel is a privilege I don't ever want to take for granted, and I hope to encourage each of you to travel in some form to a new place with new people and new experiences.
