We lived with my grandparents until I was nearly ten and my granddaddy was my best friend. He was the son of Irish immigrants and would tell me stories of his childhood that became lore. From playing baseball with Babe Ruth to eating whole cheesecakes on his walk home from work, each story made my eyes widen and I always wanted to know more. Founder of @frankandeileen Audrey McLoghlin named the brand after her Irish grandparents and it makes me wonder what stories she could tell about them. How are you? Busy seems to be the most typical response this time of year and I feel that. We’ve spent more days away from home than not and our travel is only ramping up for the holidays. While it’s the happiest time of year, for us it is also the most chaotic.

Having grown up in Florida, the four seasons were really more like one long summer and a tiny few months of “bitter cold”. The same bitter cold in which we’d witness snowbirds from Canada wearing shorts and tanks hopping into the water because it “felt great”.

Even though I’ve got thin blood I love cooler weather. The last few mornings it’s been cool and I’ve enjoyed waiting for the sun to rise offering warmth.

I love that the seasons are a reminder of changes in our life. That we can experience the difficulty of cold in the winter but the joy of warmth when spring comes.

If you find yourself in a season of cold, just remember that the sun will rise again. A new season is on the horizon and it’ll bring change. While it can’t be summer forever, I sure am excited for fall.

Somewhere along the way I stopped doing this one thing and I regret it. It’s not something that keeps me up at night but it is something that I think is really important in this world of online connectivity.

Our summer didn’t go according to plan. Though that is mostly because I couldn’t have planned one any better. Travel was spontaneous. Family visited our new home. We visited likewise.

We slowed down making plans and somehow had a perfectly packed summer. It was full of happy moments. I’ve missed being on here so often, and am looking forward to diving back into work.

Around fifteen years ago I picked up an off white satin high heel with the prettiest jeweled embellishment @saks. I had nowhere to wear them and thought perhaps I’d dye them for a special event.

Spoiler alert: I in fact did not dye them but I did wear them to a special event last year. This special event happened to be my own wedding. Because somewhere in those fifteen years of holding on to a beautiful but everyday impractical shoe I decided I’d wear them for my big day.

So before I met my husband and long before he proposed I had the shoes. The day came that he proposed and I headed back to the mother land of Saks Fifth Avenue in search of a dress to compliment the shoes.

It probably won’t surprise you that I make fast friends on trips and talk to anyone I’m sitting next to. Airplanes. Restaurants. Museums. Wherever. The life stories, advice, and recommendations that come from this can give mental foundations to build stronger memories and ties for an area.

As much as I enjoy traveling to big cities, I’ll forever be the girl from a small town in Florida who loves the charm of a quaint area. While I often leave big cities energized and excited, I find that most often when I leave a small town I leave refreshed and relaxed. How about you?

It was this time last year that I was heading to the mountains with Mr. WTW and we were setting goals for the months ahead. Little did I know how different my life would look in a years time. I know this because I pulled up my (digital) journal that I’ve been keeping for years. Do you keep one too?

Some days have more extensive writings, others just snippets of thoughts. Doing this has helped me sort through ideas and come back to check on my goals. Other times it’s just nice to look back on trips with the happiest memories.

Paris is one of those places I have written about and each trip I take makes me fall more in love with the city. Each trip I’ve picked up little mementoes, one I wear on a necklace almost daily. What do you like to bring home from trips as a memento?
