A lot of my fall inspiration comes in the form of creating a palette around familiar pieces. This week it’s a blue and brown story stemming from the Ralph Lauren Home Rue Boheme Collection. I’m especially drawn to a deep, rich blue which is pretty new for me meaning I’ll most likely be purchasing a piece or two to create some fresh looks. The key to the richness of this palette lies in the varying textures that bring depth and visual interest to each outfit. Consider matte suede loafers paired with lustrous silk blouses, creating a beautiful contrast between smooth and textured surfaces. Even the blue pants above come to life when rendered in soft corduroy, adding dimension that makes the color look more interesting. These earthy browns ground the vibrant blue perfectly, think cognac leather boots or chocolate cashmere sweaters. The interplay between warm and cool tones creates a harmony that feels right for fall. I’d finish up with a Devon Woodhill shimmering tigers-eye pendant that serves as an intentional polishing touch. This season, I'm investing in the richest tones autumn offers: chocolate browns, burgundy, and suede pieces that will form the foundation of my fall wardrobe. Elevating the Ordinary I may never purchase a pair of black flip flops this season, even though they've been on my radar. They're incredibly versatile and very much in style, but I've reached fatigue with the overwhelming availability across price points that run the gamut. I'll probably pass on the basics now that I've found a more elevated style from Tom Ford - so simple in softly braided suede with a delicate gold T-bar adding major style points. A BEAUTIFUL SHOE As sandal season wanes, the closed toe shoes emerge. My go-to for the last several fall seasons has been a loafer. But there’s been a shift in the visual balance and a more tapered, perhaps feminine, shape has emerged. I tested the waters last year with The Row Park pump and appreciated the versatility of the toe profile with both skirts and wide leg pants. When I saw the Christian Louboutin low heel black pumps, I immediately thought of The Row Park pump and had to make sure you all saw it too. The toe shape peeking out from a wide leg jean or pant is the gamechanger in making that silhouette more flattering. NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE FIND: On a recent trip to Portugal in May, a padded black bomber became the surprising hero. I loved its sporty vibe that gave my wardrobe a contemporary edge. I only wished it wasn’t so heavy. Note to self…find a lightweight style to wear in warmer weather. A contender popped up online, but I wasn’t sold based on how it was styled. I scrolled on. In store, I spotted it again and saw its relevance. The slightly textured sheen, subtle interesting details, lots of pockets - it was a definite winner I wouldn’t have considered if I hadn’t seen it in person. I purchased it in navy (so dark it almost reads black). It’s available in ivory too which I’m seriously considering. NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE PREVIEW My fashion picks include one of my favorite Max Mara insulated jackets I’d want for travel. The fabric lends itself to day or night activities and the color is beautiful. I also love Max Mara’s classic double face wool wrap coat (not pictured) which is $1,100 and will go up to $1650 after the sale. The Frame jeans I’ve been wearing non-stop the last few months are part of the sale and I may get another in the dark wash…they’re that great! My sneaker wardrobe needs a refresh and a retro inspired style will do the trick. Love these from Vince in black or cream. I have the Vince crew in camel and it’s a go-to for silhouette, neckline and weight. I would get tons of wear from one in black or white. Out of all the stripe sweaters I have in my closet, none are sleeveless. The Rag & Bone top is an easy addition to layer under jackets. THE UNIFORM Wearing Nili Lotan jacket. The Paige is my favorite style. Goes with everything! Blue may be sold out but olive green and an ecru stripe are equally good! Mother Denim jeans - my go to. Universally flattering. Prefer this silhouette with a mid heel shoe. Love the mini Flamenco bag from Loewe. PACKING FOR SPRING TRAVEL New things I'm adding to my core travel wardrobe. I’ve collected pieces over the years and built a core travel wardrobe. I refer to it as the starting point of any packing strategy with slight tweaks here and there. Having a selection of tried and true pieces takes the stress out of packing and allows me to quickly assemble a suitcase filled with pieces I know I’ll be comfortable wearing. Key pieces anchor the looks, then I have fun with the freedom to be creative with additions relative to the season and destination. AN UPDATED JACKET FOR SPRING TRAVEL: What feels newest is a bomber, or blouson style jacket. The focus here is on a short piece with volume. It pairs well with everything and instantly boosts a look. THE NEW TRENCH COATS & FIELD JACKETS: Contenders to elevate spring travel looks are an updated trench, a lightweight parka shell, or a classic field jacket. A classic trench will always have its place, but for a more casual trip I’d look at a cropped style or a simple silhouette that reads less urban. Weekend Max Mara has a straight shape option (would leave the belt at home) with bracelet-length sleeves that makes it worthy of a second look. Or, the cropped shape on Max Mara’s water repellent short jacket honoring trench details from a contemporary perspective. The simplicity of a Barbour straight coat caught my eye too. Bonus points for being reversible. Field jackets, once reserved for very casual looks, are another option. I prefer them with a little structure and a contrast collar versus beat up and worn in. Look at these from Rag & Bone, Vince, Mango, and Theory. The style has elevated to a point where it can be appreciated worn with anything. A lightweight parka or shell is always relevant. Moncler is a reliable go to for me and has plenty of good picks right now. I have this one in navy. Love the details on this one.
