Coffee at @themarket_kc after I dropped Arlo off at preschool. He’s started going 3 mornings a week and is loving it.

The most trip-related questions I had were regarding our 32 hours of driving time with a 2 year old, which actually went really well! So, I’m rounding up everything that worked well here.

✨Car seat tray: this must-have was perfect for drawing and activities and had a cup holder and spot for markers. It also has a tablet sleeve with a stand.

✨MagnaDoodle: probably his favorite new activity. He constantly asked for his “drawing pad.”

✨Mr. Potato Head: He’d never seen one before the trip. He spent so much time playing with it!

✨Scratch pads and one-color marker books. Hit up the Target $1 section for these. He did all the pages in all the books!

✨Seek-and-find books. He had so much find with a new dino book, I should have gotten him more I Spy type books!

✨New books and sticker sheets! Just prepare for everything to be covered in stickers.

TIPS
✨Use one activity bag for the way there and a new one for the way back, it’ll keep everything new and fresh!

✨Wrap activities like presents. The best bribe for getting him back in the car seat after a stop was getting a present. Thomas the Train mini trains were the biggest hit!

✨Pre-load your tablet. Load up shows and movies on different apps. Our Disney app stopped working due to an app update, so we had no access to anything we’d downloaded on there. Luckily we had shows on other apps saved too. Overall, he only spent about 2 of the 36 hours on a tablet. Be very careful on windy or hilly roads. Reserve it for open, flat highways or deal with the carsick consequences 😳

✨Get melatonin gummies: a recommendation from our mail carrier who had just done a Florida trip too. The @ollywellness kids kind are just .5 mg of melatonin, just enough to help a bit when he was overtired.

✨Pack tons of protein and fiber filled snacks. Homemade trail mix was the biggest hit!

✨Hit up garage sales and consignment sales and shops for toys, books and stickers so you don’t break the bank!

(Trigger warning: birth trauma) Motherhood. Where I’ve experienced my highest highs and the lowest lows. It’s hard for me going into Mother’s Day weekend not thinking of my first Mother’s Day 2 years ago which was horrible. We’d been home from the hospital for 2 days and I was in rough shape. I couldn’t walk, was bleeding, and trying to care for a newborn while grappling with the fact that I’d almost lost my life delivering him. He was borderline jaundice and we had to go in for blood tests daily. As we were leaving the house, we realized our tiny dog had eaten a good amount of dark chocolate. So, an emergency vet trip, a stomach pump, and many tears later, we headed to the lab for Arlo, but they’d sent us to one that was closed on Sundays. I was being wheeled all around the hospital by my husband looking like death (still very pale from birth blood loss) and the lab nurse there even asked if I was OK. It was a day for the books. Our story has a happy ending, but my therapist reminded me not to gloss over the worst parts of motherhood, because they are part of the journey too, and to heal, you can’t ignore them as part of your experience. Here’s to the good, the bad, the amazing, and the terrifying that is motherhood. It’s different for all of us, and I know there are so many women who have lost mothers, babies, or spent ages trying to become mothers that this weekend may be especially difficult for. Can we all agree it’s more motivating to get our sweat on in a fun matching set? I work out most week days (with Arlo by my side!), so athleticwear is probably what I wear more than anything. But my typical style is feminine, floral, whimsical... basically anything but athletic-inspired. That’s why I love workout wear that fits my everyday style like this set! I can’t tell you how often I accidentally leave my phone at home. Or my water bottle (Arlo even reminded me today as we were pulling away from the house, bless him.) One thing I never leave the house without? SPF on my face. Sun protection is not only important for super pale people like me (honestly not sure why this photo edit is making me look not porcelain?) but for everyone! I either use a makeup with SPF, a tinted moisturizer, or this moisturizer with SPF from @larocheposayusa. It’s perfect for working out: it evens my skin tone and leaves a nice matte finish. It also works really well under makeup (and I definitely cannot say that for all SPF moisturizers!) I’m so glad I got to try it #complimentary from @Influenster and it has been such a staple already this spring!

Trying to get my feet sandal-ready after a long winter can feel like quite a feat (or a feet?! 🤔). I’ve been using the @footcure foot soak and callus remover and following it with the @skinkc peppermint foot rub and it’s been working wonders. You may have seen in my stories that I’m and avid foot-soaker. I may be the only person who HATES getting pedicures, so I have to pamper myself at home every so often. The running joke in our house is that Andy has ended up using all of our foot tubs for house projects, so after this last time, he went out and bought us fancy pants tubs that bubble and have heat, but most importantly, cannot be used to hold drywall fragments. 😆

I’m also living in these comfy high waist jogger sweatpants and i’m linking those too. 😉

At almost 2, Arlo is finally calling me mama!
