A day in the life of a personal stylist 🛍️☕ — camel blazer on, coffee in hand, and a very large bag of returns to finish off from earlier this week.

Anthropologie first, then over to the mall for Nordstrom. Once those were finally done, I shifted gears — because I had a personal shopping appointment that afternoon and a dressing room to set up.

This is the part I love. Pulling pieces with a specific client in mind, thinking through what she already has, what's missing, and what makes sense to add for fall. Getting everything organized and ready before she walks in so that when she arrives, we can just get straight to the good part.

She tried everything on, we talked through fit, made adjustments, and narrowed it down to the pieces that were really going to work for her wardrobe. And then Nordstrom was only stop one — we headed to Aritzia to round out the rest of the day.

Returns in the morning, dressing rooms in the afternoon. Honestly, not a bad way to spend a day. 🤍

Before I ever pull a single piece for a client, I’m thinking about her real life. Where is she actually getting dressed to go? What does she already own? What does she reach for over and over again? What sits untouched? What makes her feel great? What is consistently making getting dressed harder than it needs to be?

Because anyone can help you buy more clothes.

The real work is figuring out which clothes will actually make your wardrobe—and your life—work better.

Sometimes that means shopping.

Sometimes it means realizing you already own exactly what you need and just haven’t figured out how to wear it.

Sometimes it means identifying the handful of pieces that would suddenly make 20 other things in your closet more useful.

This might sound strange coming from someone who literally shops for a living, but…

Buying more clothes is rarely the first thing I recommend.

The best shopping happens after you understand your closet.

Before we shop for a client, I want to know:

What does she actually wear?
What does she already have plenty of?
What pieces does she love but struggle to style?
What does her real life require?
And what specific pieces would make MORE of her existing wardrobe wearable?

Because shopping without knowing those answers is how you end up with a closet full of individually cute things…and somehow still have nothing to wear.

And here’s probably my biggest shopping rule:

Don’t shop for pieces. Shop for possibilities.

Before you buy something, ask yourself: Can I immediately think of 3 ways I’d wear this—with things I already own?

If the answer is no, it might not be the amazing purchase it looks like hanging in the store.

As personal stylists, our goal isn’t to help our clients own MORE.

It’s to make sure everything they buy has a job to do.

Buy less randomly. Buy more intentionally. And watch how much easier your wardrobe becomes. 🤍

A day in the life of a personal stylist 🛍️☕ — some days are glamorous, and some days are a car full of returns you've been putting off for way too long.

Today was the latter. 😂

I had exactly one hour before my next commitment to knock out Nordstrom and Free People, grab a coffee, and get back on the road. No lingering, no browsing — just in, out, and onto the next thing.

That next thing happened to be my monthly BrainTrust meeting — four hours with a group of women business owners talking through our businesses, our challenges, and what's next. I completely forgot to film a single second of it, so you'll just have to trust me that it happened.

By the time I headed home, I was very glad I'd chosen my favorite striped tee and some comfy cuffed jeans. Four hours of talking business will do that to you.

Not every day is a photo shoot or a styling session — and honestly, the in-between days are part of the job too. 🤍
