Over the last year, I’ve really worked on finding my style instead of chasing whatever trend pops up next. I’ve been slowly building a wardrobe that feels collected, not consumed. Soft layers. Worn-in denim. Cozy knits. Boots that can handle chicken chores and still look sweet at breakfast in town.

Most of these pieces were thrifted over time. A cardigan here. A wool coat there. A pair of boots that just needed a little love. And somehow, when you stop rushing it, your closet starts to feel like you.

Homestead outfit of the day 🤎

Yesterday we spent our anniversary the best way we know how… breakfast together and slow wandering through thrift shops.

A flowy dress, soft cardigan, and my favorite cowboy boots.

Simple. Comfortable. A little bit romantic in the most ordinary way.

Twenty years, and he’s still my favorite person to roam the world with.

I found this beautiful dark blue gingham fabric at our share shop (thrift store) for just a few dollars and couldn’t help myself. A little skirt for the dishwasher and the stove felt like the right kind of whimsy.

It instantly made the kitchen feel more cottage, more lived in, more us.

And if you hate it… no you don’t. Because I absolutely love it 🤍

This year, I’ve added something new to our garden season.
A new rhythm. One that will tell the story of our garden and homestead over the next decade.

The Gardeners Journal: 10-Year Chronicle feels less like a planner and more like a companion. A place to record what we planted, what surprised us, the years that were generous, and the ones that asked for patience. Notes on weather, harvests, failures, and small victories that would otherwise fade with time.

I love that you can find gently used copies still waiting for their story to begin, or purchase new ones through Lee Valley. Either way, it’s made for slow keeping. For gardeners who plan to stay.

Today’s library haul is a mix of cozy winter reads, a little magic, and some much-needed sunshine.

I picked up The Frozen River, which already feels perfect for this time of year. Quiet, atmospheric, and made for slow reading days.

I also grabbed The Story Collector because it sounds cozy and full of magic, which I’m always drawn to.

For a bit of sunshine, I added The Life Impossible. Anything set in the Mediterranean feels like a small escape right now.

Garden planning is officially in full swing too, and I’m already loving The Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook. There’s so much good information in this one, I might have to add it to my own book collection. It’s also my second time checking out The Family Garden Plan, which is probably a sign that one should come home with me too.

Books for slowing down, dreaming ahead, and planning the season to come.

I love floaty skirts. They truly have my heart in a chokehold, especially paired with an oversized cardigan with lantern sleeves. Comfortable, warm, and all the cozy feels.

Turning our leftover turkey into bone broth is one of my favorite old fashioned traditions. I simmer the carcass in my electric roaster, strain it in the morning, and then pressure can the broth so we have jars ready for winter soups and quick meals.

If you want an easy little treat to bake this weekend, these mini chocolate chip muffins are the recipe to save.
They come together fast, they stay soft for days, and they disappear even faster. My kids usually eat half the batch before they are cool.

MINI CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS
• 1 and 1/2 cups flour
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/3 cup oil
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 cup mini chocolate chips

Stir the dry and wet separately, combine until just mixed, fold in the chips, and fill your mini muffin pan almost to the top. Bake at 375 for about 10 to 12 minutes. They puff up beautifully and make the house smell warm and homey.

This is one of those simple little recipes that makes a morning feel special. A warm muffin. A quiet kitchen. A moment that slows the whole day down a bit.
