Lots of memories made in our screened-in porch over the summer. Updated the room by having it repainted and switching up the dining table and outdoor fan. The fan is huuuge, I know, but it’s much needed during the hot summer months in the south. Next project: make slipcovers to protect the wooden table and chairs from winter weather.

I just straighten the sheets and quilt most days. But weekends are extra special. It’s the time when I pull up the blinds and dress up the bed as if it were a model home and no actual humans will sleep in it a few hours later. I have to admit, my style isn’t the most styled. When it comes to decorating, I do my best to work with pieces that we already have and just try to find a good spot for them in our home. This built-in bookcase has antique books from Matt’s grandpa—which I flipped to keep the color neutral. It has gifts and a few pieces that I bought because they were nice. None of these items were purchased with the idea that they would look good on my bookcase. It just happened to work. Decorating is mix and match. Decorating is personal. Decorate with items that speak to you. It’s never one size fits all.

For the bar cart, since it’s his space I want it to look like it’s his space. The gallery wall features pictures of both our grandfathers and some places/buildings we love. Also, we’ve been filling this carboy with wine corks since 2015 so I would say our wine consumption is moderate 😊

A door and a door. My overall vision for our owner’s suite reno was a chic modern minimalist New York apartment. I wanted to have less bedroom furniture, less color, clean lines, and simple accents that scream sophistication. This mini French door leading to our closet knocks it out of the park. I could not find French doors to fit my 28x80 door frame so I ended up with a 30x78 door that required a lot of modification! These doors were a project in and of itself—but it’s one of those things which I just had to have. It sat on our porch for a while before I found the motivation one sunny weekend to finally pull it off!⠀

What’s behind the door? Most houses in my neighborhood have an unfinished attic space which the owner can turn into a bonus room or another bedroom. I would love to turn ours into a bonus room someday where little Genevieve can keep all her toys and not mess up mama’s decorated downstairs. Most parents I know said, “you wish” 😂

Sunday. I keep waiting and waiting for our bed to be delivered. We ordered it in August and fast forward five months later, we’re still sleeping—comfortably—on just mattress and box spring. Honestly, there is something about not having a bed that makes me feel like I’m in a loft apartment. And I love it! So it makes me question, do we really need that bed??? 🤔 ⁣

My fireplace used to have boring outdated tiles. It would have been a bigger project to gut and replace, so I opted to paint! I was afraid to do it at first but I found this great stencil that would work well with my decor. What I did not know is how much the paint bleeds through the stencil (tried every method in the books)—so I ended up tracing it on and hand-painting each tile. Convinced the hubby to ditch the bedroom dresser and just add more shelves and storage to our closet. We had to modify the existing structure to frame in the window and add a bench, shoe rack and lots of cubbies. Raised the overall structure from just 7ft-high all the way to the ceiling giving us more storage space. To compensate for the dresser, we built a chest of drawers on each of our sides of the closet.
