What @bodyrokstudio is like as a plus size girlie 💪 while I don’t clearly look like your average fitness girlie I am quite strong. I’ve been doing Pilates since 2023 and am working on my Pilates instructor certification. I’m really comfortable in my practice and am trying to branch out out and try different styles of Pilates / lagree and find exercises that work my cardiovascular system a little harder. I rarely run out of breath, break a sweat, or increase my heart rate in traditional Pilates which I’ve loved but now that I’m getting strong I want my VO2 max to increase a bit too! @bodyroknashville is more of a challenging workout for me since it’s faster paced and more cardio focused! It’s more of a blend of fitness styles and it’s done on a megaformer which I have surprisingly liked. It feels sturdier and is more wide than a traditional reformer and feels more secure. Generally I’m terrified to hop onto a reformer but I easily pop up onto the megaformer because it doesn’t creak like a wooden reformer does. Okay enough nerding out on technical specs (this was for my other Pilatesheads lol) -> what does this mean for plus size girlies? I recommend getting comfortable with some level of cardio fitness and/or Pilates or lagree before going to bodyrok. Could you do this with zero exercise knowledge? Obviously it’s a guided class. I think the biggest thing is bigger bodies need more springs when doing certain exercises. Unless you know this you will struggle on planks, pikes, standing moves, and bridging. I’m 3x the weight of a normal student and usually need 3x the springs to do the moves. Even regular Pilates teachers don’t adjust this unless I tell them I need more support. So, just be aware you need more springs on some of the moves in any type of reformer class!
