✨WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR HOME: UNDER $100✨

Last week I shared my favorite ways to update a home for free and mentioned I was going to make it a series, so without further ado, let’s get to it! It’s pretty amazing with a small amount of money what you can do and make a big impact!

1) PAINT—okay, I can’t emphasize this enough, PAINT, PAINT, PAINT! A room, a wall, a door, trim, a piece of furniture, the options are endless! Whether you want moody or neutral, bright and bold, or light and airy paint can change the entire vibe of a space. And do everyone a favor and skip the internet. Just pick a color that brings joy (but samples are your friend 🙃)

2) PEEL AND STICK TILE: we used this in our laundry room and it’s still one of my favorite DIYs to date. It literally changes the look of the entire space and is relatively easy to complete! We’ve had ours two years now with zero issues. I’ve seen the backsplash tiles that also look amazing! It’s a great way to test out a look, too, before fully committing.

3) WAINSCOTING/MOULDING: a 4x8 panel of beadboard costs under $25 at Home Depot. We’ve used this in our laundry room and my younger son’s room. It’s a very beginner friendly DIY! Adding a chair rail or frame moulding can also be inexpensive depending how many walls you are completing and on the size of the room.

4) ARTWORK: I love to buy artwork on Etsy or my favorite @collectionprints! I oftentimes buy digital downloads to save on cost and you can have them printed so many places. I prefer to splurge a little more on larger pieces and prefer glicée prints! Thrift frames to save on money or sometimes HomeGoods has really awesome deals, too 🙌🏻

5) STEMS: Swapping out stems can be a fun way to add some color to a space. If you have a black thumb like me 🙃 there are so many faux stems look very realistic. It’s a great way to refresh a space each season, too!

My home ✨shines✨ in autumn. I think because I am drawn to such earthy, rich colors she just really comes to life at this time of year. 🍂🤎 Happiest in my home in the fall (but also have the itch to do ALL the projects too 🙃). I love having the windows open, football on, a candle going, and some good soup on the stove. Nothing feels like home in the fall!

Just grabbed this table recently on sale and the color is 😍😍👌🏻 The quality is great for the price! It is not a solid wood, but a veneer. But it looks so realistic and doesn’t have any repeated patterns. Love the chunky look of the legs and the edge. It’s hollow inside so it’s still lightweight. This room will change at some point because we don’t love our couch, so this is a great placeholder for now!

I’m not going to lie, this cabinet doesn’t change much throughout the year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love what I have in here and don’t feel the need to constantly rearrange.

My rules for styling shelves:
1) include greenery
2) layer in artwork
3) vary the height of items (could be through books, candles, etc)
4) I like to add something with texture or dimension like woven details, marble, or wood
5) vary the shape of the items—round, rectangular, wide, narrow—each shelf should have some variation and I try to make it balanced overall
5) vary the number of items in the shelves—you don’t want to have a lot on every shelf otherwise it can end up looking cluttered and overwhelming. Also, despite there being many glasses, it is the same type of item so it counts as one. Plus, the clear glasses in this case keep the space from looking overly styled.
6) include something with a nod to the season (here I used artwork and the book open to a page showcasing fall) somewhere throughout the shelves

I’m not quite ready to start adding pumpkins around the house, so I haven’t switched out the artichokes. I love the pop of color right now! This is also our bar cabinet so I included several different types of drinkware and some cocktail recipe books.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I’ve been inside a Target and not just have been there for a quick second grabbing something we needed last minute! I wanted to go check out some of their fall decor and ended up grabbing a few things! Grabbed these two new pieces from Old Navy and they are SO good! They are both from their rebranded activewear line “sport”. These pants look like workwear but are so comfortable and this adorable bubble hem sweatshirt would be so cute with leggings, too! Both come in multiple colors.

These stems, however 😍😍 so gorgeous! Love, love, love the color of these! Honestly I would use these year round. There wasn’t much shedding of the floral part with these, but with this type of stem it’s not uncommon. Think the quality is pretty good on these specific ones!

Okay, truth be told, I am really happy it’s September, BUT I am also not looking forward to those later ‘ber months at the moment 😬 I think those of us that live in colder climates LIVE for summer time and warmer months because 😮‍💨 those cold months are TOUGH.
