In 1985, my very young parents immigrated to the US with me and my baby sister @brownbutterbakeryny. She had just turned 1 and I was 5. Swipe to see the photo of us at the airport the day we left South Korea. We all look legit DEPRESSED!! Can you tell my grandparents and their sisters were so upset we were leaving? 😭My parents were understandably filled with anxiety of the unknown future that awaited us.
I couldn’t truly understand the extent of what was happening but I was depressed bc my mama made the decision to cut my long hair and give me the worst perm just days before we left. I guess she thought it was a nice fresh start to our new life? Mom, you were so wrong for that! 🤣
My mom recently gave me this photo a few months ago and we laughed so so hard. When I look at this this photo now, I see struggle, hope, resilience, determination and so many terrible hair styles. 😜It reminds me where I came from and how hard my parents worked to provide the life they wanted for us. Thank you, 엄마 and 아빠. I am forever grateful for your love and sacrifice. Now, it’s my turn to take care of you. ❤️
