Strength work is the quiet part of run training nobody talks about, but it’s what’s keeping my knees happy as my mileage climbs toward race day.

Okay so last year I did zero strength training. Like literally zero. 😅

And I paid for it with multiple injuries that had me questioning everything. But here I am, coming back, and this time I’m doing it differently.

If I want to hit my goals, a stronger 10K this summer, a faster half marathon, and eventually a marathon, I can’t just run and hope for the best. Strong legs have to be part of the plan.
So I added strength training. This is week 5 of my @runna “Back After Injury” plan and today’s session was called “Race Day Focus” which honestly felt very fitting.

Why runners actually need strength training 👇

Okay so I officially started my @runna training for my June 10K and today was just an easy 4 miles to kick things off 🤍

Easy runs are something I used to skip or rush through. Now I actually look forward to them. Just me, my @hoka , and a 10:14 pace that felt exactly right.

Morning run

The hardest part of coming back after injury is not the running.

It’s the numbers.

It’s seeing 10–11 min pace on your watch
when you’re used to seeing 8s and 9s.

It’s doing walk-run intervals
when you know what your body used to handle.

It’s trying not to compare this version of you
to the version that felt stronger, faster, more fit.

And honestly, that part is messing with me way more than the actual training.

But I also know this:
if I want to be ready for the new season, I cannot train based on ego.

So right now I’m following a back-after-injury plan, keeping easy runs actually easy, staying in Zone 2, adding strength training, and trying to rebuild the right way.

Not the fast way.
The smart way.

Because I don’t want another quick comeback.
I want a real one.
