life lately 🖤

I haven’t shared as much of the behind-the-scenes stuff lately — not because there hasn’t been plenty happening, but honestly because there’s just been a lot. Between work, the house, and life in general, both Kyle and I have been feeling pretty stretched thin.

The kids are doing great though — the boys are officially sharing a room, Hazel’s holding her own, and Gryffin’s now in a big boy bed (somehow it feels like that happened way too fast). Nala had surgery to remove her mast cell tumor, and we got the best possible news — everything was removed and it was low-stage, so she should be good to go.

Hunting season kicked off, we’re still working on siding and roofing, and I’ve somehow managed to stay consistent with workouts — officially 20 pounds down since January.

And because we clearly needed something to wind down with, we watched the full season of Monster with Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein. I already knew a lot of the details of that case and had seen the crime scene photos, but the show still hit hard. It’s been sitting with me ever since.

Trying to remind myself that even when things feel full and overwhelming, we’re moving forward — staying consistent, finding our rhythm, and soaking up this season as we head into hunting and the holidays.

Also… has anyone else watched Monster yet? I have thoughts — and I need to hear yours. 😬

Six weeks in the living room… all for this moment. ✨

Late nights, paint clothes, and a lot of tape later… Hazel’s checkered wall is done. She picked Deep Mauve by Benjamin Moore for the color, and the checkers are a little nod to the theme she chose (I’ll save the full reveal for later 💕).

I’ve kept Fossil (BM) running through the dormers — it feels calm and soft, not stark, but still clean and bright. Nugget curled up on the floor while we pulled the tape, Nala found her perfect sun spot on the trailer, Gryffin wandered around proud with his empty beer bottle, and Kyle kept things moving outside.

We’re tired, but the finishes are going in — flooring, trim, all the details — and we’re finally in the homestretch. Thought we’d have the kids moved in this weekend, but it’s looking like mid-week instead. Either way, we’re close ✨

I pulled together three different design ideas for the boys’ room, each with its own vibe.

First up is Vintage Explorer — maps, plaid, and that old-world adventure feel.

Then Modern Industrial — darker tones, metal details, and some really cool engine prints, because Evan loves anything mechanical.

And Rad Racing — bold red, checkerboard, and all the car artwork… because like most boys, Evan is all about cars.

Just like Hazel’s room, we’re keeping the same beds and dresser — hand-me-downs from my brother and my dad. No need to replace everything when we can work with what we already have. A new rug, fresh paint, and some fun accents can totally transform the space.

Evan’s already picked his favorite — and since Gryffin’s still too little to weigh in, his big brother made the call. Which one do you think he chose?

I thought I knew which design Hazel would choose… turns out I was wrong 👀 But when I asked Evan which one he thought she’d like, he actually guessed the right one (still amazed by that).

I pulled together three different design ideas for Hazel’s room just to see what direction we might go in.

There’s Moody Vintage with darker tones and a cozy patterned rug.

Rad Girl with checkerboard bedding and bold art.

And Groovy Flower with big floral accents and a colorful rainbow rug.

For all three, I kept the bed and dresser the same. The bed is hers already and the dresser has been in the family for generations. No sense in blowing money on all new furniture when we can work with what we have.

A fresh rug, new paint, and a few accent pieces can completely change the vibe without starting from scratch.

We’ve been dreaming about more space up here, and it’s finally starting to take shape. The dormers went from bare framing to fresh drywall, and now Evan and Hazel are helping pick colors for some fun accent walls in their rooms (big decisions when you’re 6 and 3!).

This coming week we’ll wrap up spackling, priming, and painting. Then it’s on to flooring, trim, light fixtures, and those last little details that make it feel complete.

Outside, the roofing is ready and the siding is on the way — piece by piece, this project is moving forward. It finally feels like the finish line is in sight, at least on the inside.

The past couple weeks have been a blur — Maine, back-to-school chaos, an 8-hour drive to Cape May for Labor Day camping… and now we’re back home, exhausted.

The kids are still sleeping in the living room because the dormers aren’t finished, every night feels like a never-ending slumber party, and I’ve officially set a deadline of Oct 3 (because I need to watch the new season of Monster in peace - and not traumatize my kids).

Workouts + nutrition have slipped, energy is low, and while it might look like Kyle and I are doing a lot… the truth is we’re tired, stressed, and just figuring it out like everyone else.

The highlight reel doesn’t show the laundry piles, the late nights, the arguments, or the “what’s for dinner?” panic at 5pm. Things are messy and imperfect behind the scenes — and I want to be honest about that.

Because life isn’t perfect. And that’s okay.

Back at it again with my favorite design experiment!

I take my real design plans and let AI try to turn them into a photo… and the results? A little magical, a little chaotic, and always fun to compare to the real thing.

This one was created while trying to design my daughter Hazel’s room.. and while we haven’t decided on a final style yet, I absolutely love how this came out!

Got home from camping → immediately did laundry, stacked wood, repacked the camper, started school, hung Sheetrock, waded through office chaos, and kept pretending the kids don’t live in the living room right now.

So naturally, the only logical next move? An 8hr road trip to Cape May for one last hurrah 🏕️☀️

Kyle and I are barely hanging on, but hey… free-ish weekends are on the horizon. Until then, send coffee. Or maybe a margarita 😂
