This project is a perfect example of what happens when you do not default to taking down walls.

A 1985 formal living room that once felt dated and underused has been reimagined into a moody wet-bar lounge layered with walnut, dolomite, and brass + bronze detailing.

Instead of chasing more space, we focused on creating better atmosphere through purpose, materiality, scale, and light. #projectrusticcontemporaryranch

Can a girl’s bedroom be dreamy, playful, and still totally grow-with-her? Let me show you…

This pastel butterfly garden bedroom is a soft swirl of whimsy and polish, designed to grow with her and reflect everything she loves 🦋💫

Inspired by her love of butterflies and florals, we layered in cozy textures, sweet rattan, and playful art — all grounded by the dreamiest dusty purple wall color (just enough mood without being too mature). 💜 PAINT COLOR —> ‘New Age’ by Benjamin Moore 💜

From the butterfly light to the scalloped vanity moment to the daisy pillows, every detail was chosen with her — not just for her. Because I don’t design with a signature style, I design to reflect yours.

One of the biggest misconceptions about decorating is that everything needs to match, wood tones, colors, etc.

In reality, the most beautiful rooms are built through layers: artwork with character, furniture from different eras, varied materials and finishes, pattern, texture, and layered lighting that adds warmth and depth.

If you’re designing your home on your own, my best advice is to give yourself time. Don’t rush to fill every empty corner or buy everything from one place just to have the room “done.” Collect pieces slowly, live with what you have, and wait for the things you really love.

But when you hire a designer, part of my job is knowing how to create that collected feeling intentionally.

Even when we’re starting with a blank slate, I can create a room that feels as though it came together naturally over time.

By mixing old and new, modern and traditional, refined and relaxed, all from a variety of sources, the goal is a space that feels layered, personal, and full of character

This is your reminder that traditional does not have to mean boring.

For this equestrian-inspired traditional home, we wanted the entry to set the tone from the moment you walk in: colorful, layered, collected, and full of personality.

The dramatic curved staircase stayed. The beautiful railing stayed. The family heirlooms stayed.

We simply gave everything a better conversation to be part of—with bold wallpaper, fresh paint, a herringbone stair runner, and a palette of peach, blue, green, and classic brass accents.

This colorful traditional dining room from Project Eclectic Traditional feels layered and elegant but not the least bit stuffy. We wanted a space where family dinners felt special, but also where spills weren’t a total disaster (thank you, performance fabric and cleanable rugs!). The result is timeless, textural, and a little unexpected.
A formal dining room should feel special, but never so precious that no one actually wants to use it. For this family, we wanted to create a colorful traditional dining room that honored the home’s classic architecture and the client’s heirloom pieces, while giving the space a fresh, lively perspective.

The green grasscloth wallpaper set the tone immediately: textural, rich, and beautifully grounding. From there, we layered in crisp wainscoting, tailored blue curtains, a pink patterned rug, and just enough equestrian charm to give the room personality without feeling themed. We refinished the client’s heirloom dining table, painted and reupholstered the chairs, and brought in layers of color and pattern to make the whole room feel collected, polished, and personal.

The equestrian details add a subtle sense of heritage and character, which felt especially fitting for a traditional dining room. The key was keeping those references restrained. A little equestrian influence can bring warmth, history, and a Ralph-Lauren-adjacent richness to a room—but too much can start to feel too themed.

The result is a formal dining room that still feels warm and welcoming, a space made for holiday dinners, birthday candles, after-school chaos, and all the good stuff that happens around a table.

Step inside this European Inspired sunroom designed for everyday family life, from morning coffee and homeschooling to cozy evenings by the fire. With a breakfast nook, sitting area, William Morris sheers, heirloom details, and breathtaking views, this space feels timeless, layered, and beautifully livable.
This European Inspired sunroom was designed to become the kind of space every busy family needs: beautiful enough to feel special, but comfortable enough to live in every single day.

Before the renovation, the Project Eclectic Traditional sunroom sat just off the kitchen behind a sliding glass door, which made it feel more like an add-on than part of the home. Now, it flows directly from the kitchen with openings on both sides, and the former window above the sink is completely open to the sunroom beyond. The result is a light-filled extension of the kitchen that feels connected, intentional, and incredibly inviting.

With a breakfast table, cozy sitting area, fireplace, sofa, and swivel glider chair, this room works hard in the best possible way. It’s where morning coffee happens, where games are played, where cozy evenings unfold by the fire, and where homeschooling fits naturally into daily life for this sweet family of seven.

Powder bathrooms may be small, but they are some of the best rooms in the house for taking a design risk. You are not committing to wallpapering an entire living room or painting your whole kitchen green—although, for the record, we support both when done well. A powder room gives you the chance to create one highly memorable, personality-filled moment.
For Project Eclectic Traditional, also known as Project Equestrian Traditional, we treated this powder bathroom like a tiny jewel box. The goal was to pull together the rich, colorful palette used throughout the home and create a space that felt bold, classic, and a little unexpected.

This eclectic traditional powder bathroom featuring bold wallpaper centers around William Morris’s iconic Strawberry Thief wallpaper, layered with deep burgundy, earthy green, warm brass, and crisp marble-style flooring. The result is a moody, colorful powder room that feels old-world and fresh at the same time.

This colorful traditional entryway sets the tone for the whole home—this space had all the right bones: a dramatic curved staircase, intricate railing, beautiful French doors, and meaningful family pieces. What it needed was life, color, and a sense of personality to match the rest of the home. For this equestrian-inspired traditional home, we wanted to create an entry that felt personal and pulled together, but not overly formal. It’s the kind of space that says “come on in” without trying too hard.
For Project Eclectic Traditional or also called Project Equestrian Traditional, we transformed a dated entry into a colorful traditional entryway filled with pattern and personality by layering bold wallpaper, fresh paint, a tailored stair runner, and heirloom furnishings that already meant something to the family. The goal wasn’t to erase the traditional character of the home—it was to wake it up.

The new palette of peach, blue, green, gold, and deep brown feels classic but not quiet. The staircase now feels intentional and polished, the heirloom secretary and artwork have room to shine, and each corner of the entry has its own collected moment. It’s traditional with a little wink—which, frankly, is my favorite kind of traditional.

Welcome to Project Cortez, a Scottsdale Airbnb retreat designed to feel like an experience the moment you walk in.

This living room leans into Contemporary Desert style with a warm, neutral palette layered in rust tones and a hint of turquoise. It’s minimal, but not stark… grounded in organic materials, soft texture, and that easy, sun-washed feeling that makes you want to stay a while.

In today’s competitive Airbnb market, a beautiful space alone isn’t enough. Your rental has to feel like something. It has to tell a story, photograph beautifully, and invite guests in before they’ve even booked.

That’s where thoughtful design changes everything. This isn’t just a place to land, it’s a space people remember, return to, and talk about long after they leave.

Project Cortez is a prime example of how intentional interior design can transform an ordinary space into a modern retreat that stands out above the crowd. If you’re looking to elevate your own short term rental with carefully curated, durable furnishings and a sophisticated aesthetic, get in touch with us today.

As of last year—every room *on the main floor* gets touched at Christmas in our house ✨

From the twinkle-lighted staircase…to mini wreaths in every window in the living room…to playful powder bath moments and festive dining spaces—our entire main floor becomes an immersive holiday experience.

So grateful I had the itch last year to step up our Christmas decorating. My hope is that it’s creating lifelong memories for the girls—how the Advent season felt as they grew up, learning the significance of the greatest event in history.

A special thanks to @karadeyoung for capturing this view!

The PHI design philosophy shows up most clearly at Christmas 🎄 Psst—don’t tap away too soon or you’ll miss a Wren sighting in her Christmas sweater! 🐾

My work centers on richly layered, colorful and/or textured, real-life spaces—and our home at Christmas is the most personal expression of that philosophy.

This is classic Christmas with color, soul, and a collected story behind every detail. Soft velvet bows, tartan and toile, vintage bells, layered greenery, and hints of blue and pink woven throughout. Designed to feel joyful, not staged.

We hard-launched Christmas on November 1st. It was literally on the calendar. Before I even came downstairs, Matt had every Christmas box stacked and the tree standing tall. 🎄

This #haddadtreehouse doesn’t ease into Christmas…it commits.

For us, decorating early is about stretching the season of joy, memory, and meaning as long as we can. And yes…we turn the lights on every single night. ✨

(Also… studies show people who decorate early for Christmas are happier—so we’re calling this research-backed.) Same for cats—I can confirm under the tree is Wren’s ultimate happy place. 🎄🐈‍⬛

These are my favorite faux greenery staples for Christmas and beyond 🌲

I use them to tuck into mantels, shelves, stair rails, and cozy little corners where I want that evergreen feeling to last all season long. When chosen thoughtfully, faux greenery brings that soft, festive layer without feeling overdone—just timeless, warm, and magical.

✨ These favorites are also featured in this month’s Christmas newsletter with simple styling ideas for holiday and winter.

This #ProjectMeadowbrook living room was one of my very first projects back in 2019 (when PHI was in its infancy). It is a study in layers—creamy upholstery, textured pillows, and warm wood accents. The vintage-inspired rug grounds the space and adds just enough pattern to keep things interesting, while the neutral palette keeps it timeless.

But what really makes this room special is how it works double duty, but in a way that is practical and pretty. If you saw the before, you know this space was used by the previous owners as a catch-all “office”—utilitarian desks, bulky chairs, and way too many wires. It wasn’t cozy, cohesive, or particularly inviting, especially for a room right by the front door. By reimagining the layout and softening the materials, we transformed it into an elegant living room with a small office nook that feels completely at home in the design.

Now, the shelves display art, books, and a few collected pieces that make the space feel personal and curated, not “workspace first.” It’s proof that you can absolutely have function and beauty… and that your office doesn’t need to look like, well, an office.
