Whenever you find yourself with heart eyes 😍 from the beautiful clothes at a store, how do you make a decision about whether or not you’re going to buy it? . Do you usually buy things at random and on a whim? Or do you have a list of criteria and shop with intention? . I used to buy things on a whim, and while that rush of having new pieces felt good at first, it resulted in a closet full of random pieces that didn’t go together and didn’t always serve me well. . About 8 years ago, when I was figuring out how to build a mix and match wardrobe, I started shopping with intention. I learned from mistakes, created criteria for purchases, and refined that criteria as I went. . Every piece I buy needs to work in certain ways. For example, I need to be able to wear a top with 3 different bottoms and 3 different completer pieces. My jeans all need to work with booties AND flats, not just one or the other. I had criteria like this for different categories of clothes. . And now, years into it, I absolutely LOVE my closet! I still shop of course! But I waste way, way, wayyyyy less money on pieces that don’t serve me well. Everything in my closet goes with tons of other things, yet I find it super versatile. It gives me so many outfit options, and I’m seldom bored with it. And you guys have seen my wardrobe—it’s not an outrageous size! . I’ve never been as content with my wardrobe as I am today! Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever feel this content, but it’s possible. And it started by shopping with intention. It took a lot of trial and error, and I share what I do on my blog in hopes to save you some years of trial and error and expedite the process for you. 😁 .
