Sometimes this is my face, but it isn’t my heart. Sometimes I have bad dreams and wake up feeling relieved, sometimes I have good dreams and wake up feeling lonely. Sometimes I feel emotionally drained and have to put on a happy face for the day, and sometimes I don’t feel the need to smile for other people’s comfort. If you’re sad, let yourself feel sad. If you’re peaceful, let yourself feel peace. If you’re angry, lonely, content or joyous, let yourself experience and examine those feelings. You don’t owe people smiles. You don’t own them anger or tears. You don’t owe the world emotion that doesn’t honor your true feelings. You are entitled to your emotional experience without explanation or defense. It is real because it is real for you. Hold yourself accountable to them, learn, grow, and recognize our emotional experiences are a journey. Me? I’m peopled out. I’m craving a certain connection I’m lacking and find that surface interactions are making me be intentional about the smile on my face. And that’s ok, it’s a new day, and I’ll be able to give myself what I need soon.
