✨T H E T I G E R✨ I wasn’t born in the year of the tiger and 2020 is not the year of the tiger, but for me....it is the year of the tiger. 🐅 It all started off with going down the strange rabbit hole of the Tiger King, and it’s ending with me channeling my inner tiger strength to get through my husband’s heart surgery in the midst of a pandemic. ———————- There are actually a couple of different animals I relate to. I am, without a doubt, a sloth. I’m not lazy, it just takes me soooo long to do everything. I like to think that’s because I’m fully present and enjoy each thing that I do without rushing through it.😉 ———————- My brother likes to call me a honey badger, and I love that he sees me this way. Whenever I start getting in my head and questioning myself, he reminds me I’m a honey badger. I’ve always taken my own path and when I want something, I’ll make it happen. ———————- And then there’s the tiger. The tiger is a symbol of strength, courage, and self-confidence. I have all of these things in me, but sometimes I forget. So, this tee is a good reminder of who I can be when I need to. I’ve made it through darkness before and came out stronger on the other side, and I can do it again! ✨FUN FACT✨about me: I was a pole vaulter in Montana the first year they allowed girls to participate in that sport in high school. It’s one of the most fun things I’ve ever done, and I wound up placing fourth at State my junior year! 🏅

I was set to do even better my senior year, but I was kicked off the team. I know you’re probably thinking I was drinking at a party or something, but no, it’s far more embarrassing than that. We had a men’s and women’s bus to and from our track meets, and the guys always used to give us a full moon on the way home. So one time, the girls followed suit and got caught.😬 The principal told me I could take a three day suspension from school and get zeros on my work for those days, or I would be removed from the team. I thought it was a double standard that the men always got to do the full moon and everybody looked the other way, but that when the women did it, we faced consequences. (Let me be clear that nobody should have been doing that. 😂) I thought I was making some statement about gender equality by choosing to get kicked off the team. I’m not sure that message really came through, though. 🤣

As an adult, I still struggle with feeling like I don’t belong. My views on politics, religion, and money never seem to fit the norm, so I constantly struggle to to find equilibrium.

It’s so much easier when you’re the same as everyone else, but, where’s the fun in that? Our differences are what make us who we are. If you’re an outsider, embrace it. It means you get to view others from a distance and that gives you so much perspective about what is important. For many years, I used “getting ready” as a roadblock to working out. I didn’t want to put on gym clothes and fix my hair only to workout and have to shower and get ready AGAIN. 😩 I know, those are some high quality problems. 😬 Lucky for me, however, athleisure hit the scene big time in the early 2010s and this solved my problem. I don’t want to be dramatic, but athleisure completely changed my life!

I run a straightener through my hair, throw it in a pony, pencil in some eyebrows, coat my lashes in mascara, and I’m totally presentable in 15 min! Over the past several months, I put all of my energy into helping my husband fully recover, taking care of my three kids, and with whatever was left over....trying to get myself back into a more stable mental state. What does your Christmas morning look like? Fast and furious or slow and steady? Somehow I’ve managed to train my kids NOT to get up at the crack of dawn to open presents, and I’m so grateful! I usually throw in a breakfast casserole or pastry at 7:00 a.m., and then we leisurely open presents one at a time. I like to stretch the morning out as long as I possibly can!

Not sure if you saw my stories the other day, but I totally Christmas Vacation-ed my Thanksgiving turkey! 🤣 I thought it was way more frozen than it was, so I cooked it an hour longer, and because I did all the cooking myself this year, I got sidetracked and didn’t even check on it until I pulled it out. It had literally shriveled up around the bones! 🙈There wasn’t even enough broth in the pan to make gravy! 🤣

It’s a good thing the side dishes were good because what was left of the turkey was the driest meat I’ve ever tasted. The parts that were edible were so chewy it was almost like bubble gum. And mind you, I’d been telling all of my friends who were cooking a turkey for the first time how easy it was! Famous. Last. Words.

My husband had a friend in college that said, “ If you’re going to fail a test, at least look good doing it!” I think this is a great motto! If any of your cooking is sub-par, just distract them with your outfit! Now, I realize a sweatsuit isn’t super wow-worthy, but I will say that my husband told me I looked cute in this star set. It’s always so funny the things he notices!

I love to cook and host Thanksgiving with anywhere from 10-18 people, but this year will be different. I will miss all the family we usually spend the day with, but we all agreed that it was for the best, not only to slow the spread of Covid, but also to protect my husband who we recently found out has a high-risk condition if he were to catch the virus.

Of course we all wish we could be together, but we are making short-term sacrifices for long-term rewards...which will include many more holidays spent together in the future! However, I realize how lucky I am to spend the day with my husband and three kids...my four favorite people. We have so much to be grateful for this year, and even though there’s only going to be 5 of us, I’m still cooking for almost 20!
