Spray bottle of vinegar and water plus rubbing with a rag gets almost everything off! I’m in love with this couch.

Memory lane for this corner of the living room before I go change it again soon 😝. If you’ve had a hard time decorating a living room, you’re not alone… they’re really hard! So many options (I’m sold on two couches here but it took years to figure out), a big and bold room to fill, and high demands for function and storage! Figuring it out may take some trial and error buying and selling on Facebook till you get it right… and time! What’s your favorite sofa color in this spot??

I’m so excited about my beautiful little kitchen lamp and the light it gives in the evenings, but I was afraid of having a white shade in a kitchen next to where I cut vegetables, etc.! And then it finally did get a spot on it. So I washed it as best I could, and then gave it three coats of Scotchgard to protect it from this happening again! Now I’m wondering what else I should protect?? Anyone tried this?

This antique table had a lot of funny spots from water and oil and various other things on it, but I didn’t want to refinish so I tried this product, and it has done a great job of covering up the spots without changing the color or texture of the finish. You just rub it on, then wipe it off with a dry side of the cloth. I did the legs too cause they were looking a little worse for the wear. So much better. Still not perfect cause I didn’t sand it down all the way, but so easy and keeps the original style!

Have you tried this product before? I wanted to restore the finish on this table and had a bottle of this stuff sitting on my counter for literally months before I did this in about 15 minutes. It’s a great way to cover up rings and spots without using intense stripping stuff or taking down the finish further. This table is an antique and I didn’t want to change the color, so I got some Restor-A-Finish that matched closely. Worked great!

This little designer lamp is one of the most fabulous things to ever happen to my kitchen, but I was afraid of getting a mysterious spot on it… And then it happened. Gave me the kick in the pants to finally Scotchgard it. 🙌 Recommend! I love the light it gives in the evening!

Am I ridiculous for caring this much about my soap bottles? Yes. 🙈 But I think this is called self actualization… when everything else in your life is going well, you can focus on improving the little details. The timeless Nancy Meyers vibes I’m going for in here now make me feel better than the honestly Target and Magnolia knock-off stuff I bought when I was in an unhappy marriage and had a very tight budget and money anxiety. So… Design makes a difference!

Performance velvet is a beautiful thing! I know people make white couches work with kids but honestly… knowing the kids are snacking and playing on the “soft couch” as they call it is such a relief! I don’t worry about it! What a great feeling. Recommend.

When I first got this comment, I was like… Haha, yeah, I staplegun-ed scrap fabric to my muddy 2 x 4 playhouse window when I was a kid too. Kind of Flintstones-ey. But then I thought… No, absolutely nothing else about this recently updated kitchen is Paleolithic. But I know a sink skirt curtain is not for everyone! 😂

My friend’s kids’ bathroom worked just fine, but had some builder basic touches and needed some cohesive style. We transformed it!
What a difference, right? She likes a light and airy style with some natural textures and calm, feminine elements. Here’s what we used.
- This mirror is the star of the show! SO much better than a frameless builder one!
- We chose a classic polished chrome faucet with elegant transitional handles.

I’ve been making some changes to my kitchen to hopefully make it more timeless, less organic earthy meets modern traditional designer wannabe. 🤪 These amber glass soap bottles just did not go with the clean, classic Nancy Meyers vibe I want in here. I tried four different options before finding these! Turns out it’s very hard to find a good chrome top. Feels so much more classic and classy in here now!
(But this makes me realize I should really get a better dish brush, get rid of the grey plastic… One step at a time!)

Still loving my chrome topped soap dispensers! I remember when the amber glass ones were so cool and desirable, and now they are at target and every new steakhouse dark and moody bathroom. I’ve been doing this easy $7 manicure for about a year now and I still love these nails! I was doing dip before, and these are so much faster, easier, and better for my nails, and they last reliably longer! I wear them for a whole two weeks, although they could even go longer. Pick any color that says it’s the improved formula and they will last forever!

One of those things where you’re amazed to learn there is a product out there that’s exactly what you need. 😜🤦‍♀️ It is seriously a lovely experience to open and close these curtains now! Ordered more for another window!

Someone left this comment on my reveal reel of Otto’s room. (We don’t need to get into the fact that he did actually choose some of these pieces himself…) It actually made me feel really good about how I take care of my son. Everyone’s different, but he will choose the top shirt and the top pair of shorts in the drawer and gives absolutely zero rips for what his clothes or bedding look like. It makes me feel good that I can take care of those things for him. He’s 7. He doesn’t like shopping or being asked to choose bedding or rugs. He cares about the trinkets and craft projects he’s made that we keep on the shelves, and I do hope that he will keep building on those and put pictures on the walls and leave robots he’s built on the floor. But it fulfills my mothering heart to be able to create a comfortable, cozy, fun room for my amazing boy.

There’s probably a lot to this because of gender and the fact that I’m a single mom and all sorts of other things, but for now, let’s just I’ll pat ourselves on the back for our unique strengths and how we can show love to others. 💕

Stills and befores Otto’s room. This room is small and funky so I see why the previous owners built in this very strange platform bunkbed situation, but for now we’re making it work with a regular ol’ bunkbed as well! More room for playing! (Although if you have alternate layout solutions, I’d love to hear them!)
Took me a long, long time to find bedding that I liked for this room so that was the final touch, but Otto helped pick out some of the other elements in here like the curtains and ottoman. And that watercolor is from a photo of us at the beach last year! Linking everything I can in LTK.

I’ve been working on some updates to this kitchen I renovated in 2019–it was a plain white kitchen back then which, it turns out, is boring but a flexible backdrop for several different styles. By swapping brushed brass for polished nickel and industrial metal for traditional painted wood, and a few other styling changes, I was able to lean into the Nancy Meyers kitchen vibes we all want these days—which hopefully is timeless since we love her kitchens from the early 2000s too! Choosing window treatments can be so overwhelming! I recommend picking one room at a time and thinking about function first. Coupon codes for these below, but first, here are some favorites and tips:
- Inside mount Roman shades to show off your trim, outside mount to block less of the window (good for small or short windows)
- Blackout Roman shades are very effective and easy to use in a bedroom! I use mine with mostly decorative curtains over that I leave open all the time.
- Cafe curtains can be sheer if you’ll want them closed for privacy. You typically don’t need them to be light blocking! Use a hidden roller shade at the top if you need that sometimes.
- I have top-down Roman shades on almost all my first floor windows! Great for privacy but still letting light in.
- Huge or uniquely shaped windows don’t need Romans, just curtains (panels wide enough to cover comfortably when closed).
- Do shades plus curtains for a luxe or more traditional look.

Everyone’s talking about how they want the Nancy Meyers aesthetic, but you can put that as a caption on pretty much anything. I see lots of earth tones and moody natural vibes that I’m pretty sure are not what Nancy would’ve decorated with in the 90s in 2000s. But honestly, this amber glass has just started looking really dark, and I wanted to switch to foaming anyway (see last soap swap post 😂). Took me forever to find a good option with a polished chrome top and foaming dispenser on a glass bottle!

I had a lot of problems with this sink not draining and a plumber told me it was partly the soap. So I’ve tried foaming and it’s been better, but this plastic one was not cutting it. Finally found a nice glass one with a polished metal, foaming top!

The last of my mom’s hydrangeas. I salvaged these amongst the ones drying on the bushes. I’ve been working on Otto’s room for a year, but I was so stumped by the bedding! Finally found just the right things from @thecompanystore. I had real down/feather pillows when I was a kid and I didn’t realize how hard it was to find good ones now. These are so soft and nice. I love the scallop trim on the shams and quilt! And they’ve just been using those lightweight cotton blankets during the summer, so breathable and comfortable. I think boys’ rooms are hard after the toddler phase. Loving what we found!

This bathroom is its best self now, and I did it without having to repaint the trim/wainscoting or do anything to the floor! It’s amazing what wallpaper, window treatments, and little extras like painting that cabinet and adding a sink skirt can do.

I think it’s time for a quick living room tour. Welcome to my home! Up front, we have this beautiful, classic, off-white sofa, and behind it a spot that I’m still trying to fill. (Maybe chairs that face the window? Maybe a sofa table? Though my kids would definitely climb on it.) In this corner, we have a cute round table for which I am still trying to find the perfect tablecloth. This is just a blanket!

Back to the middle, the fireplace. I added this tile years ago and it’s a great neutral with handmade texture. Now to this beautiful, comfortable, durable velvet light blue sofa. My favorite place to sit for sure! Behind that we have some storage. I’d like to replace this black cabinet with something larger and maybe that hides the Barbie plastic a little better, but it works great for now. On this well we have this really cute special antique dresser, which looks so elegant, but… Hide dress up costumes!

That’s it! Still things I would change in here, but it has been so fulfilling to update this room the past seven years!

Took me months and months to find the right bedding for this bunkbed! Otto is too old for a lot of the printed “boy” bedding options and I definitely wanted all natural materials. I’ve loved @thecompanystore since I was a kid for their down comforters, but they have so many more great choices now too. Linking everything I used in this LTK post!

I do have a legitimate tutorial for sink skirts just like this on my blog if you want the longer version! This fabric matches the @twopagescurtains Roman shade on this window and I chose a light sage green stripe to pick up the painted trim and @chasingpaper wallpaper.

Target is fine sometimes to hold you over but it rarely feels like the real thing. Curtains and window treatments can be overwhelming. Just do one room at a time! I debated a long time about how to replace the too-short, too narrow Target velvet blackout curtains but what I ended up with is sooo much better. I did a natural Roman shade for the blackout function (it’s super effective) and these gorgeous pleated Belgian linen curtains which I leave open. Feels so luxe!
