Is it great quality or just expensive? The other day I walked into one of the big flagship stores of a well known in designer on Old Bond Street here in London. On the top floor I spotted a gorgeous gown in what looked like silk. As the price tag was pretty hefty, I asked the lady if it indeed was made in 100% silk. She confirmed. Luckily I had my wits about me and as I tried it on, I double checked the label. To my surprise the dress was made completely from plastic. Safe to say I left it in the dressing room. These days a designer label does not equal great quality. We have to be clever and actually do our own checks before we choose to buy anything. An old money family rule is to focus on buying the big four - wool, silk, linen and cotton. All in 100% or if mixed, with each other. Not all items can be made only in natural materials. But if they can, they really should. Especially if it’s assumed from the price.
