This room was so void of character and it didn’t encourage conversation at all. We didn’t get it right the first time and it took over five years for us to figure out how to make this room work for us.

I love how this turned out because it reflects both my interests and my husband’s. And it’s now so cozy and the layout encourages intimate conversations and a sunny place to sit with a cup of tea and a good book. It’s one of our favourite rooms in the house now!

Through this room transformation it really taught me to live in a space and figure out how we use it before jumping in to decorate. Home truly takes time. And after five years in this house, we’re still learning how to make this home ours. Follow along as we figure it out together.

A heart to heart. I use to think Chinese New Year decorating was tacky.

For a long time, I thought the red and gold felt outdated and a bit garish. I told myself I was avoiding stereotypes, but the truth is, I was avoiding my heritage.

Growing up, I felt self-conscious about the foods we ate. About the superstitions we followed, rituals that felt old-fashioned and non-sensical at times.

And then, about five years ago, something changed.

I started asking my family why. Why we celebrate the way we do. Why certain foods matter. Why every detail shows up, year after year.

And the more I learned, the more I fell in love.
These weren’t just traditions. They were stories passed down through generations. Every dish, every colour, every decoration carried meaning. So I stopped running.

And I started celebrating Chinese New Year the best way I know how, by going all in with my decorations.

And one day, I hope to design my own Lunar New Year collection. Because now, celebrating it doesn’t feel like obligation, it feels like coming home. 🇺🇸
