A heart to heart. I use to think Chinese New Year decorating was tacky. For a long time, I thought the red and gold felt outdated and a bit garish. I told myself I was avoiding stereotypes, but the truth is, I was avoiding my heritage. Growing up, I felt self-conscious about the foods we ate. About the superstitions we followed, rituals that felt old-fashioned and non-sensical at times. And then, about five years ago, something changed. I started asking my family why. Why we celebrate the way we do. Why certain foods matter. Why every detail shows up, year after year. And the more I learned, the more I fell in love. These weren’t just traditions. They were stories passed down through generations. Every dish, every colour, every decoration carried meaning. So I stopped running. And I started celebrating Chinese New Year the best way I know how, by going all in with my decorations. And one day, I hope to design my own Lunar New Year collection. Because now, celebrating it doesn’t feel like obligation, it feels like coming home. 🇨🇦 CNY LNY LTKHome LTKstorytime
