We’ve got truffle hunting on the agenda, so comfortable shoes that can get muddy are a must. These Sorel boots are durable and cute. While the blazer and designer bag aren’t necessary for hunting, we’ll be strolling around nearby San Miniato afterwards, so this will be the full outfit.

So here’s a fun fact about me: I’m a little (okay, 𝘈 𝘓𝘖𝘛) OCD when it comes to matching colors in my home and in my everyday life. So when this adorable wicker basket came only in a natural tan color, I took matters into my own hands and changed it to match. 👩‍🎨

I spray painted the giraffe a matte navy blue (the glossy was a bit much) and then lined it with a small faux shearling rug. Then I rolled up all of T’s swaddles and stuffed them inside. 🎨

꧁𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗜 of a series I like to call “𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐’𝘮 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 - 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘌𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯”

Several months into the start of the pandemic, we sold our beach bungalow in Ventura and found a place with more space in nearby Camarillo. We then underwent a four month renovation project that started the day after we moved in.

Here’s an 𝘼𝙁𝙏𝙀𝙍 photo of our formal living room, which shows the end result after the remodel of what we jokingly call “our 90s mansion.”

We ended up getting this place for a steal because most of the home hadn’t been touched since it was built in the 90s. That meant it was structurally fine and—because it was well cared for—it was in 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 condition, but the taste level just wasn’t… well, “ours”. It had a lot of red oak finishes throughout, tile and grout countertops (IYKYK) and some pretty horrific paint colors.

So our renovation consisted of ripping out the existing hodgepodge of white tile, travertine tile and red-colored hardwood and replacing it with a grey brown, dog-friendly waterproof laminate wood floor, 𝘓𝘖𝘛𝘚 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵, replacing the kitchen countertops, glazing tile and marble in areas we didn’t want to replace, switching out some fixtures, and some DIY projects on my end (more paint, some wallpaper and odds and ends).

Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be rolling out photos of the final product, along with some videos of the renovation process and of course some 𝘽𝙀𝙁𝙊𝙍𝙀 & 𝘼𝙁𝙏𝙀𝙍 shots so you can see the difference.

Our little reading nook 📚

One of the most 𝘉𝘙𝘐𝘓𝘓𝘐𝘈𝘕𝘛 ideas that someone came up with was to have guests for a baby shower show up with a book instead of a card. My sister-in-law did this for her baby shower and I knew when I had mine that I would want the same. The outcome is that Tristan now has a 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 impressive book collection!

We are so grateful to all of the friends and family who bought books, wrote sweet little notes inside (for Tristan to read later!), and gave Tristan the gift of interesting stories to incite curiosity, fun pictures to stimulate his imagination and a wealth of knowledge that he will take with him throughout his life.

Here’s some advice for expecting mamas regarding swimwear: you do NOT need to purchase maternity swimsuits!

I purchased one “maternity” swimsuit for this trip and I absolutely hated it. I’m not sure why swimwear brands do this, but just because a woman is pregnant does not mean that every square inch of her body should be covered. And this also applies to women who aren’t pregnant: the frumpier the cut, the worse it will make a woman’s body look. I have really never understood why brands do this at all. No, I do not need my entire ass cheek covered just because I’m pregnant, thank you very much. In fact, it makes me look larger than I am (which is what NO pregnant woman wants, right?). Every maternity swimsuit I’ve found has too much fabric and does not do positive things for a woman’s body.

Other than this one terrible maternity swimsuit, all I brought on this trip were suits from my existing collection. I picked tops that had just a little more coverage (because the girls have gotten larger) and bottoms that are low cut. Unfortunately high waisted bottoms don’t work, but as long as the bottoms are cut low enough to sit under the belly, they work just fine.

As long as you’re willing to rock the bump, a standard bikini while pregnant will work just fine. And if you’re not into showing off the baby belly, sizing up on one piece suits with some stretch will work also. Try something with a textured waffle or woven fabric.

Happy first day of spring!!

I just love this time of year, and am already enjoying the longer days. This spring I’ll be headed to Hawaii for a babymoon, get to finally see some family and friends at my baby shower, and will likely welcome baby boy into the world before summer starts.

I have to say, I’ve never worried much about my age. Sharing my age has never once bothered me, and frankly I’ve never understood when, mostly women in particular, choose to lie about their age.

But if I’m being honest, 36 just hits a little different. I’m no longer “closer to 30 than 40” and can’t say “early 30s” anymore. But that’s okay.

Even though it’s a little more difficult pill to swallow, your 30s really are better than your 20s, and I would actually bet that my 40s will be better than my 30s. This coming year is set to be a pretty monumental one (for obvious reasons) and I can’t wait to see what my 36th trip around the sun will bring. Bring it on, 36.
