Any door can look like this! It’s painted to look like wood… 3 weeks later…my front door is done and I love it! I went back and forth between, “I’m gonna burn this door to the ground” to, “wow, I can’t believe how good it’s looking” for 3 weeks…now, don’t touch the door or look at the door bc I’m not sure what I’m capable of if it gets a scratch on it after all that. Here’s the process if you skip where I messed up, in the beginning: 1. Sand the door with 220 grit sandpaper and wipe down, for prep 2. Paint with any darker tan color matte paint and make sure to go with the grain of the wood bc any strokes from the paint brush are most likely going to be seen when the glaze is added…but it’s good to have that texture for the wood look (I used Benjamin Moore “Acorn”) …I did two coats 3. After the paint is fully dry…Brush on the gel stain, working in sections and going with the wood grain…on this step, you’re basically painting what you want the door to look like in the end…allow to dry for 24 hours…I only did one coat of the gel stain but you can do 2 if you desire more coverage or a darker look 4. Seal with a poly (I used oil based outdoor polyurethane)…it’s important to have a good quality brush for this step or you will get streaks…I let my first coat dry for 24 hours before applying the second coat and I lightly sanded in between coats with 330 grit sandpaper I took my hardware off and put it back on about 5x through the process (literally) bc I wanted it to be seamless in that area when working, instead of leaving stop and go marks from working around hardware…it was worth taking it off That’s it! 3 weeks later, you can have a new front door too…well, hopefully less than 3 weeks for you 😁
