Lately I’ve been a lot more open about sharing when I get it wrong and this is one of those times. When I renovated my kitchen last year, I had my heart set on vintage pendants for the island. That plan fell through, and in a rush I settled on a milk glass pendant. Do I like the light itself? Yes. Does it feel right for the space? Not at all. It was too stark and competed with the vintage pendant in my breakfast nook. A few weeks ago I scored this Visual Comfort pendant on FBMP—brand new, 60% off—and it completely changed the vibe. The more modern shape balances beautifully with the vintage touches (like my spice jars and that breakfast nook pendant) and adds just the right tension between old and new. Someday I’ll move the junction box so it doesn’t need to be swagged, but for now it feels perfect. I sold my old fixture and ended up breaking even, which feels like proof that it’s okay to admit when something doesn’t work. Design isn’t about getting it “right” the first time, it’s about evolving until it feels right for you. Do you ever swap things out when they don’t sit right? Let’s normalize letting go of the guilt and making changes when we need to. Follow along, because I’ll be tackling a few more “redos” before the holidays. What do you think is next?
