I really wanted to make a DIY Mermaid Hairbrush for Sabrina, as I’m working on creating a whole collection of mermaid accessories and crafts for her to play with and use in the future. But then I couldn’t decide whether to make a small one for her to use now (because she loves to brush her hair with dinglehoppers) or a big one for when she is a little older. So I decided it would be even more fun to make two, a mommy & me set of mermaid hairbrushes. A small one for her now and a big one for her to use later (or for me to use until she is older). I was going to completely cover them in pearls, but then I realized I didn’t have enough, so I opted for these craft crystals to fill in the space around the shells. I wasn’t sure how it would look, but I’m in love with how it turned out. The craft crystals kind of look like the bubbles and foam from waves crashing against the shore. Plus, they sparkle beautifully in the sunlight! When I handed it to her after her nap (oh yes, Rog & little Rog were up in the condo building LEGOs while Sabrina took a nap, and I decorated these hairbrushes on the beach), she immediately started brushing her hair. And then she tried to pull the pieces off, because she is one, and that’s the stage we are in. So I decided to tuck it away with the other shell crafts I’ve made over the last few years, so I can gift them all to her in the years to come.
