I read 226 books in 2025 and of those 226 books only 20 were five star reads

These books blew me away and I cannot recommend them enough!

My favorite thing about these 20 books is that it really shows how much of a mood reader I truly am. As you all probably know thrillers are my jam but it’s nice to see at the end of the year that I can still find a love for other genres among many new favorite thriller books and recs 🤍

Another great read in the Gus Wheeler FBI Series! I’m so excited this series is continuing and I cannot wait to see what unfolds next!

Thank you so much to the author @r.johndingle for my gifted arc of Before the Devil Knows. I will read anything he writes it’s just that good!

I absolutely loved the religious tie in with this read. It added so much to the story and was such a unique premise. It was dark , psychological, and its cult like vibe had me questioning everyone and everything.

When a missing teen is found disfigured in an unmarked grave and strange religious practices begin to come to light Agent Gus Wheeler and his team will leave no stone unturned until the case is solved.

Dingle’s writing and his attention to detail sets his crime fiction thrillers apart from the rest. A must read series.

I cannot wait for book 4 especially with that ending!!

The sun is shining again so of course I picked up a Carley Fortune book!

I love all of this authors books and this one was no different even if this summer will be different! ☀️

I always appreciate how layered Carley Fortune’s storylines are. They pack an emotional punch and cover so many topics all while taking place in a beautiful beach setting. I enjoyed the characters , their story , and their growth.

Lucy’s happy place becomes Prince Edward Island. It’s where she feels free , whole , and her heart stays. Five summers ago Lucy has a casual hookup with an islander while she’s on vacation in Prince Edward Island but little does she know is that this casual hookup is actually her best friends brother who she was meeting in Prince Edward Island for the first time. Because Lucy and her best friend live away from the island she had no idea that this mystery man was her best friend’s brother. Told from the summer they met until present day fall in love with Lucy and Felix’s story while you learn a lot about life, love, and moving forward.

Freida thrillers are always binge worthy , addicting, and twisty! This one did not disappoint. I loved how everything came together in the end!

Unhinged suburban mom is such a fun trope and Freida writes it so well! Our main character Debbie has a knack for delivering karma ice cold. I suppose you can call her a vigilante of some sort because she only hurts people who have wronged her and deserve it (for the most part).

I absolutely loved the dark humor in this book. I found myself laughing and covering my eyes trying to figure out what Debbie would do next. A definite popcorn thriller with unhinged characters and will have you questioning your morals. I recommend!

Another great Karin Slaughter read. I love these characters so much. It was awesome diving back into the world of Grant County especially with being able to bring Will Trent along. I don’t want this series to end so I’m trying to space out my reads but I can’t wait to read book 5!

This one wasn’t as dark and grotesque as a Slaughter book usually is. I loved the plot and did not figure it out in the end. I was way off!

Absolutely loved the character growth and the ongoing relationship / animosity between Lena and Sara. I really believe these characters will come around full circle in the end and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I liked this one but did not overall love it. It was too much of a slow burn for me. After finishing I found myself really confused but I think that it is more of a me problem than a book problem. Sometimes when listening on audio I find myself zoning out if I am not completely hooked from the start. I went into this one really excited to read it because I enjoyed this authors other work. I did not quite connect with the characters and the plot as much as I had anticipated or wanted to. I think a lot of readers are going to love this one unfortunately it just was not my favorite.

Some positives of the book was the setting and the atmosphere. I really felt the atmospheric thriller vibe throughout the entire book and even had myself looking over my shoulder a bit or feeling claustrophobic while some of the plot and setting were being described.

An atmospheric and twisty thriller/mystery about trauma, secrets, family, and friendship. Multiple missing girls and a prominent family at the heart of what went wrong. Find out how our main character Audrey a search-and-rescue expert uses her skills of survival knowledge of an age old legacy of all of the girls before.

Did I finish the book or did the book finish me?

I binge read this all day over the weekend and wow wow wow. I seriously LOVE this author’s writing and way to make me question literally everything including myself.

I won’t lie when I finished I was a bit confused and just needed to sit and try to understand and comprehend what the heck I just read. (I mean that in the best way possible)

After going down the rabbit hole (no pun intended🐇) I understood a huge part of what other readers gathered from this book and let me tell you it’s DEEP.

It is true talent that Marcus Kliewer can take the subject of grief and turn it into a horror thriller that will have your mouth hanging open. Grief and loss is something we all will experience at some point in our lives and the author does an incredible job casting light on a not so easy topic as well as scaring you senseless in the process. This book made me feel anxiety and uneasy in a good way. I felt like I was immersed in the plot and characters as if I was watching a scary movie.

I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.

I went into this thinking it was a thriller but it ended up being more of a mystery / literary fiction read which I overall enjoyed. Once I lost the mindset that this was a thriller I stepped into the story that was a mystery wrapped in a love story. The characters were lovable and relatable. I really connected with them and absolutely loved the podcast tie in to the book.

Best friends Benny Abbott and Joy Moore host a beloved podcast together every week. They talk stories of survival and near death experiences. Their latest survival story may turn into one of their own when Benny shows up at Joy and her husband’s home and finds signs of a break in and a missing Joy and husband.

A story of love, friendship, and mystery wrapped in a nice bow. I recommend this one on audio and I am so excited for another great debut for us readers!
