Did you know that sitting still on the ✈️ especially for more than 4 hours quietly raises your risk of leg swelling and blood clots? Nobody at the gate mentions it. But you are at high risk if you fall into on of these categories: - You are over 60. - You have obesity or recent major weight loss surgery. - You have a personal or family history of blood clots. - You take estrogen-containing hormone therapy. - You have cancer or certain clotting disorders. - You have significant varicose veins or limited mobility. For most healthy travelers on long flights the solution is simple : - Wear knee-high compression stockings with 15–20 mmHg compression. - Put them on before boarding while your legs are not yet swollen. - Keep them on until you’ve been walking around after landing. Compression stockings are only part of prevention.
