Peony season is almost here 🌸 Peonies will start waking up this month in March, and in colder climates April. That means now is the time to install supports and fertilize them before the blooms get heavy. I fertilize when the shoots are about 2–3 inches tall up to around a foot high in early spring. A slow release, low nitrogen fertilizer or bone meal works best because too much nitrogen will give you lots of leaves but fewer flowers. Scatter the fertilizer in a ring around the plant about 6 inches away from the stems and lightly work it into the soil. Comment PEONY and I’ll send you the peony supports and fertilizer I use in my garden. 🌸 Save this so you remember when yours start popping up.
