Switching our nighttime lighting to red light has been one of the simplest ways I’ve prioritized both my nervous system and my son’s wind-down routine. Red light is low on the blue light spectrum, which means it doesn’t suppress melatonin the way bright overhead or white lights do. So instead of our bodies staying in an alert, daytime state, the red light signals that it’s time to slow down…aligning more naturally with our circadian rhythms. For my son, it helps reduce that second wind energy before bed, and for me it softens the mental stimulation after a long day of work and motherhood. It also creates a calmer sensory environment…meaning less harsh on the eyes & less activating on the brain, so our bodies can shift into sleep mode together rather than feeling turned up when we’re trying to wind down. (Toddler mama’s yall know what I’m talking about lol) comment “red” for a link to my fav red lights
