It’s Tuesday, right? I’m getting lost in this week and I think it’s because it feels like it should already be Thursday. Anyone else? I’m also distracted by our plans to keep working on the playroom (for that little cutie hanging in her crib), but weekdays are tough for us. By the time we get home from work, get dinner together, and spend the little time we have together as a family, it’s basically bedtime. WE’RE TIRED lol. But we’re about to be halfway through the week which means we’re getting closer to the weekend 🙌🏻... thank goodness!

This weekend we’re going to tackle one of the rooms upstairs which has stood mainly empty (or full of junk) since we moved into this home almost 3 years ago. It was my Pop’s office. I have memories of creeping in there as a kiddo and watching him do our family’s taxes or balance a check book- he loved numbers. He always had pads of yellow lined paper handy, and an old calculator that printed its calculations on a roll of paper. We plan to turn it into a playroom for Maeve with a special nod to Pop in its design ✨. Can’t wait to share as it comes together over the next few weeks!

Big plans for this room in 2021 ✨. That wall behind the TV needs some spicing up, and I think some board and batten action may do that. This room in general is a little tough to figure out (even though it may not look like it, the layout is a little odd to work with). But I think that if I switch my mindset from ‘trying to fill the room with more’ to just ‘giving the illusion that there’s more’ going on here, this space will look a little warmer! What do you guys suggest?

Also, some of you may notice that I’ve switched out the rug in this space for the 12,386th time. The “old” one will help with a guest room makeover later in the year and I’m crossing my fingers that this one will stick 🤣. This simple but stylish area rug is from @hookandloom and it’s MACHINE WASHABLE. Our family room leads to the garage and backyard, so I needed something a little easier to keep clean with people (and a dog) coming and going. I love the natural light in this room- it comes through a huge window at the front of our home. My grandparents always displayed their Christmas tree in that window, and now it’s where ours sits. Every Christmas Day, as far back as I can remember, my extended family gathered here to open presents, laugh and eat my Grandmom’s amazing Christmas dinner; the atmosphere was warm and festive. Over the last decade, December 25th has definitely changed for our family; the kids are older (some of us have families of our own), our Pop is no longer with us (that one will always hurt) and it’s increasingly harder to get everyone together amidst busy schedules. But, some things will never change. Our family will always gather (even if it’ll be in smaller numbers/virtually this year), it will always be warm and it will always be festive. And this year, we have Maeve with us to celebrate her first Christmas, create new memories and help make the season even brighter!

As we get ready for baby girl to arrive any day now, it got me thinking about pregnancy during a pandemic. Honestly, “it is what it is”, as my Pop would’ve said! Everyone’s lives have been flipped, but I know this pregnancy would have looked a lot different pre-COVID. Mike would have been able to come to my appointments and see our little girl at ultrasounds. We would have been able to have an in-person gender reveal with friends and family to hug in excitement. We would have gone out and shopped for the nursery in crowded stores. Our baby shower would have been filled with people ready to celebrate the arrival of our little girl. And we wouldn’t be concerned about who’ll be able to meet our sweet kiddo once she gets here. It’s a different world right now, but we’ve cherished every moment of our first pregnancy nonetheless! To all the ladies expecting during this pandemic, my heart goes out to ya! 😷❤️

Picking out a rug that works perfectly in any space is something I am probably the WORST at... anyone else? Size, color, pile height and texture are a lot to consider- especially if you’re shopping online. I also like a good bargain on a rug since, I just know, I’ll be switching it out sooner rather than later (most likely because I wasn’t 100% happy with what I chose originally 🤦🏼‍♀️); but rugs can be expensive!

But, I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! First was the family room (see two posts back)... now, I’ve switched up the rug in our dining room and I love it! Not only is this rug beautiful, but guess what I paid for it... just wait... this 7x10 area rug was only $96!! I was so happy with it that I bought a matching runner for the kitchen too (for only $32)!! Will they hold up? We’ll see! But I can tell you this for sure, I wouldn’t be heartbroken if they didn’t since I didn’t break the budget on them! 🙌🏻

Here we go- little sneak peak of the nursery happening over here as I hit the beginning of my third trimester! You know when you shop forever for a rug- and fell like you’ve looked at a million of them- and then when you finally make your decision... it doesn’t flow with your room the way you thought it would 🤦🏼‍♀️. That’s what happened with this room; we had this light colored jute rug in there and I was itching for change. First the nursery, next our bedroom.

The nursery is really close to our room... like, REALLY close. Our bedroom is on the top floor of our split-level and is part of 3 rooms (and a full bathroom) that originally served as an in-law suit for my Great Grandmother, and then my Great Aunt. One of these rooms is directly joined with ours- this will be the nursery. I was skeptical at first; there are a ton of pros to having our girl so close... there are also some cons. But, it’s the room that makes the most sense right now, so we’re going to make it work! And it’s inspired me to give our bedroom a little makeover to play off the nursery’s design! I’m telling ya, we’re back in business over here and I’m determined to keep the ideas flowing 🙌🏻.
