Instagram is so nuts. When I first started this style Instagram account a couple of years ago I was gaining followers like crazy and would get almost 1,000 likes per photo. Then @zuck bought out IG, the algorithm changed, hardly anyone saw my posts, and my hashtags didn’t work as well🙄Now I lose followers like it’s my day job and I can’t keep up with the algorithm changes😂🤷🏼‍♀️ but I still love the process of sharing what I love. Finally Friday❤️ I hope everyone is enjoying the start to their weekend. There is another blog post up (3 posts in one week, #wut) about my favorite journaling exercises that have been personally meaningful and effective for me. I wrote this post because I’m a huge believer in the power of writing. I have loved writing ever since I was a little girl; it has always been very therapeutic for me. Even if you don’t see yourself as a writer, my hope is that you pick up a pen and a piece of paper, and at least try one of the exercises. Journaling will certainly not solve all of life’s problems but it is a wonderful tool to aid in the healing process. ❤️

When’s the last time you took a day for yourself? Like I’m talking about completely shutting off the world and engaging in some serious self-care.

We live in a society that preaches the value that being “busy” is better; that rest is for the weak. 🤦🏼‍♀️However, rest is a vital part of being healthy. If we don’t slow down and give ourselves the quality care that we need {and deserve}, we are heading down a spiraling path to burnout, sickness, and general unhappiness. So why do we feel so guilty about using our personal days? Our sick days? Why do we feel bad about taking care of ourselves and slowing down our world?
.
Self-care doesn’t have to be fancy lattes and massages and shopping sprees. Self-care can be taking a long, hot shower. Self-care can be shutting off the dang phone. It can be lighting a candle and reading a book. It could be spending some time with your dog. It can be doing something you enjoy vs. being productive .....because you don’t always have to be productive!

I encourage you to challenge the societal norm that doing “more” is better. Because guess what? At the end of the day, you’re only cheating yourself and burning yourself out. So take care of yourself. You only have one body, and one life to make it count❤️

Monday // my reset day.

I laid in bed all day yesterday, didn’t workout, didn’t do much of anything, and passed out at 7pm. It was glorious & just what my soul needed😅👵🏻

Today I’m hitting the ground running and have several goals I wanna accomplish. Physically, I want to get 10K steps in 4-5 days this week and I want to lift four days this week as well. Personally, I want to manage my stress better by getting at least seven hours of sleep three days this week, and staying off my phone more.

This girl. We’ve been friends since elementary school. I have a secret to share. This Thursday, I’m starting therapy for the first time. Yes, me, the counselor, is seeing a therapist. And I’m nervous. I’m the person who is supposed to have most of the answers, yet I’m also a work in progress myself. And I’m ready to work through my “stuff” so I can be the best version of myself - to my students, to my family, and to my friends. By being open with this to you all, I hope I can inspire you that it’s okay to take that first step.

Happy hump day, peeps! You guys asked me to share more outfits for the office so here ya go. This is something I wore last week. It’s hard to tell in this photo because the lighting wasn’t the best but these pants are from @express and in the color of maroon. The fit is the BEST!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I actually think I’m going to order another pair in black. And this top… I know I’ve been featuring it A LOT lately, (don’t judge) 😂and this is like the fourth way I’ve styled it, but seriously, it’s so versatile!

Also random thoughts for today… when life gets hard, all you can do is the best you can do. Just take things one day at a time and stay positive. This is something I tell my high school students often.... and they always look at me like I’m the crazy, bubbly, annoying counselor🤓... but SERIOUSLY we forget the power of positive thinking and how it does wonders by rewiring our brain🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻Just some food for thought for today.❤️ hope you’re all having a great day!!
