Tall containers can be tricky when your plant doesn’t quite reach the top.

Yes — you can flip an empty nursery container upside down to create extra lift. I’ve done it before, and it works in a pinch.

But I’ve found they can shift over time, especially with heavier plants or after watering. The last thing I want is movement inside a planter that’s holding a big, heavy plant.

I prefer using something built to handle the weight — it feels more secure, more intentional, and it comes in multiple sizes so you can match it to different pots and plants.

And after lifting that thing into place… I’m not redoing it. 💪🌿

This is the base soil mix I use for most of my houseplants, and it has made repotting so much easier.

My recipe:
🌿 1 part potting soil
🤍 1 part perlite
🪵 1 part orchid bark

Why I love it:
• Potting soil holds moisture and nutrients.
• Perlite improves drainage and keeps the mix light.
• Orchid bark adds airflow and helps prevent compacted soil.

From there, I make small adjustments depending on the plant.

For example:
🌱 Monstera: I add a little extra orchid bark for even more airflow and drainage.
🌿 Peace lily: I add a little more potting soil because they prefer to stay evenly moist.
🌸 Hoya: I add a little extra perlite and orchid bark since they like a chunkier, faster draining mix.

Having a big batch mixed and stored in a sealed container means I’m always ready when a plant needs repotting.

I have tried propagating so many fiddle leaf figs in water, and honestly, they never worked for me. 😅

A lot of people think every fiddle leaf fig needs support, but that’s not always the case.

When they’re young, a little sway from airflow can actually help them grow stronger trunks. But as they get taller and those big leaves and branches add weight, they may need a little extra help staying upright.

My fiddle leaf fig did great on its own for years. It wasn’t until it reached about 8 feet tall that I decided to add support.

That gorgeous orchid doesn’t have to be short-lived. With the right setup, those flowers can last for months.

A few extra tips while it’s flowering:

• Check the roots before adding water — not the calendar
• Let excess moisture fully escape the pot every time
• Keep it in a well-lit space without harsh rays hitting the leaves
• Avoid moving it around constantly — they love stability
• Keep it away from AC vents, heaters, and exterior doors
• If you feed, keep it very diluted and occasional

Orchids aren’t difficult — they just need the right environment. Once you understand what they’re asking for, they’re surprisingly easy.

Once dry, I rinse the @solsoils LECA thoroughly to flush out built-up salts and prevent mineral buildup around the roots.

After everything drains fully, I refill the reservoir with water, fertilizer, and a biological mosquito control to keep nutrients consistent and fungus gnats away.

I keep a small reservoir at the bottom so the roots can wick up moisture — without ever sitting in too much water.
