As much as I love my holiday decor, I love the feeling of a clean house when I take it down. I received lots of questions from people about two specific parts of my decor this year so I thought I would share my tips for them since the tip relates as much to putting it up as it does to taking it down. The first is tinsel. Tinsel can seem daunting and messy but it really is so quick to put up and take down. I like thick tinsel on my tree so I put it up in clumps. Then, when it is time to take it down. I take it down the exact same way: by pulling it off in clumps. It took me 5 minutes to remove all of the tinsel on my tree. Of course, there are usually a few stragglers that separate from the clumps but they are easy to grab and remove. The second question I am asked is about garland and how I layer it on my mantel. My mantel is tricky since it is all marble and there are limited things I can attach to it. I use Command cord bundlers and they easily stick to the marble without damaging it but still have the strong hold I need. The strap stretches a bit to accommodate various thicknesses of garland. I buy them in packs of 6 and usually use all six! This allows my garland to go up and down super easy! I like to stock up on tinsel and cord bundlers at the end of the holiday season when it is on sale so I am ready for next year. If I don’t find them on sale, I buy them really early (August) because they tend to sell out and they are two holiday staples I always need. Save these tips for next year!
