Make a homemade ice cream cake with me! This is our favorite birthday tradition using a family recipe. And it is easy!

Ingredients:
Oreos (party size)
2 flavors of ice cream
1 jar hot fudge
1 container cool whip
Sprinkles

*Place 24 Oreo cookies(crumbled) in the bottom of a spring form pan.
*Bake at 375F for 6-8 minutes. Let cool.
*Add 1 quart of softened ice cream and freeze
*Add layer of cookies (gently press into ice cream) and hot fudge and freeze
*Add 1 quart of softened ice cream- freeze
*Frost with Cool Whip and decorate with sprinkles, candy, nuts, or whatever you like
*Freeze and enjoy!

This is a pretty foolproof recipe. For example, sometimes I add the second Oreo layer before freezing the first ice cream layer instead of adding it with the hot fudge layer. If I am short on time, I freeze each layer just enough to set it. Just make sure it is fully frozen before serving.

My largest spring form pan broke which fits full quart containers of the ice creams and cool whip so I adjusted the quantities slightly to make sure all would fit in this slightly smaller pan.

I recently went to Target and was so surprised by the sheer number of items I found that I loved. I often find an item here and there but don’t often bring home multiple items! I couldn’t resist these because they were affordable but also unique looking. I thought it would be fun to show you how I styled them.

1) Cookbook holder as a photo book stand - I usually display our photo book with the cover facing out but this gave me a perfect chance to display some of our beautiful @catwilbornephotography family photos inside the book and the weights keep the pages from closing.

2) Buffalo check ottomans - I slightly shifted furniture placement in our family room and it meant the coffee table was a bit too far feeling from our couch and chairs. When I saw these pattern matched (!!) ottomans, I couldn’t resist. They were the perfect, affordable solution to being able to prop our feet up - regardless of where we are sitting!

3) Rechargeable table lamps - We have enjoyed our rechargeable lamps in our dining room so much that when I saw these GREEN rechargeable lamps I couldn’t resist. They go perfectly with the colors in the room and they add a touch of ambience in our family room when we want a nightlight effect but the look of a lamp.

4) Faux plant that looks real - I have so much trouble keeping houseplants alive, but often it is hard to find affordable and real looking faux plants. When I saw the colors and drape of this one I knew it was worth a try. It comes with a cute ceramic pot but I decided to place it in one of our marble pots.

Note: my exact chairs aren’t available so I linked some others with amazing shapes! My first FB Marketplace score of the year and I couldn’t be more excited! I shared at the end of 2024 that I was hoping to make some changes in our dining room this year. What I didn’t share is that I don’t have a plan on what I am going to do. I have decided to let it come together organically.

I have been casually looking for dining chairs for about a year and was so excited when these popped up on FB Marketplace! Six designer chairs in new condition. Yes, please. The previous owner said they had never been sat in. I adore the shape since they are a little quirky and sculptural. It’s a huge change from our s-style chairs (which are still some of my favorites!) but now that my kids are teens I am not worried about upholstered chairs getting dirty.

Update: chairs sold. If you are local and want to buy my old chairs, send me a DM! They are in excellent condition and some of the most comfortable chairs we own. Seriously.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make you the happiest! I bought this bag charm a while ago because I adored it. But, I quickly realized I don’t carry a bag often enough to actually put it to use. I decided to try it on my phone and I am so happy I did! It perfectly layers with my chainlink phone wristlet but it is more substantial feeling and definitely more decorative. I feel like I am wearing a bracelet without actually wearing a bracelet!

As much as I love my holiday decor, I love the feeling of a clean house when I take it down. I received lots of questions from people about two specific parts of my decor this year so I thought I would share my tips for them since the tip relates as much to putting it up as it does to taking it down.

The first is tinsel. Tinsel can seem daunting and messy but it really is so quick to put up and take down. I like thick tinsel on my tree so I put it up in clumps. Then, when it is time to take it down. I take it down the exact same way: by pulling it off in clumps. It took me 5 minutes to remove all of the tinsel on my tree. Of course, there are usually a few stragglers that separate from the clumps but they are easy to grab and remove.

The second question I am asked is about garland and how I layer it on my mantel. My mantel is tricky since it is all marble and there are limited things I can attach to it. I use Command cord bundlers and they easily stick to the marble without damaging it but still have the strong hold I need. The strap stretches a bit to accommodate various thicknesses of garland. I buy them in packs of 6 and usually use all six! This allows my garland to go up and down super easy!

I like to stock up on tinsel and cord bundlers at the end of the holiday season when it is on sale so I am ready for next year. If I don’t find them on sale, I buy them really early (August) because they tend to sell out and they are two holiday staples I always need.

Do you have one room in your house that just does a little bit of everything for everyone? Welcome to that room in our house. It is a laundry room, mudroom, butler’s pantry and our dog’s room. We added this space on almost 5 years ago and can’t imagine living without it.

This room is a great reminder that rooms that are high in function can be high in style too! I love adding festive touches throughout my home during the holidays and it doesn’t take much. In our kitchen, I hung these darling faux boxwood wreaths on the windows and added colorful bows and an oversized ornament. Paired with a bright bottle brush tree and a mini tinsel tree and suddenly the kitchen is as festive as the rest of the house. I chose ribbon I already had and used colors from the painting that rests on our countertop. I love how it ties everything together.

Oh, and the painting permanently rests on a cookbook stand - because who says it has to be used for cooking and not art?!

Every angle of our hallway is my favorite. When we added wallpaper to this hallway, I knew I wanted to change up the gallery wall but I didn’t want to fully replace it or incur the cost of reframing this many pieces of art. So, I painted the frames a high gloss deep red and added tassels to visually lengthen each frame and fill out the wall. When the walls were painted white, the all white space seemed to better balance the smaller frames but once the wallpaper was up it felt like it needed another decorative element.

I also tried a taupe colored tassel because I worried the green and red would give off Christmas vibes. While the taupe looked pretty, color is what makes my heart sing and the deep red with this shade of green give off my signature traditional with a twist vibes rather than classic Christmas.

I am so happy with this hallway and how it turned out!

Holidays are often for dressing up - but what about dressing down-ish? Just like I like my house to be cozy, I like my clothes the same way! We always joke at Thanksgiving that we are going to wear our pajamas and this year I took it to heart and did just that (spoiler: no one knew - until I told them!).

My pants are the bottoms to a pajama lounge set (yes, it has a matching top) and I styled them with some flats and a faux leather top. I couldn’t resist the pattern for Thanksgiving since it reminds me of cornucopia. I have styled the top and bottom together and no one was the wiser this is actually a pajama lounge set. The colors and pattern make it feel so chic and add some accessories and you are both comfortable and stylish. A total win.

I often take risks in my own home that I would never take in a client’s home. These grasscloth consoles are a prime example of that. I originally noticed the glue on the grasscloth turning brown about two years ago. I’m not quite sure why it happened, but I suspect that the glue was a bad batch and was failing.

I reached out to a couple of experts to get their opinions and the general consensus was to paint the grasscloth. Painted grasscloth furniture is a pretty big trend right now and one that I personally adore. So, while I loved the natural grasscloth color of the original tables, I was excited to try something new.

I decided to take a bit of a risk and chose a chartreuse color from my draperies but almost as soon as I started painting I could tell that it wasn’t going to work out. It was neon. I continued on so that I could be sure and it definitely didn’t look anything like what I was going for. So, I switched gears and instead of tweaking the color I chose a beautiful deep red shade.

I am pleased that I can still see the texture of the grasscloth through the paint. This color creates a totally different vibe in our bedroom and I am here for it. Sometimes risks pay off and sometimes they don’t - but I never regret taking risks and trying something new! What do you think of the new color?

Wallpaper = magic! If you aren’t decorating your hallway then you are missing out on a great opportunity to make a statement. I have had this wallpaper for almost two years and kept putting client projects ahead of my own.

Well, I have something SUPER exciting happening at my house tomorrow and I was able to beg and get onto my installers super packed schedule. Goodness, the transformation is insane! I love that the pattern is graphic yet cozy. The brown and cream color feels very classic. Of course I had to add some color to my previously gray frames and if this isn’t the most perfect shade of deep red I have ever seen then I don’t know what is.

My son turned 14 last month and I finally had to come to terms with the fact he had grown out of his twin bed. He wanted a “cooler” room and I knew we could work with the bones of his room to make it feel totally new from the design he had since he was 7. His first request was a platform bed which was very different than the antique bed I had in mind. But, once we found this @softframedesigns bed, I knew I could make a platform style bed work. It’s cozy, stylish and soft and couldn’t have been easier to set up! I couldn’t resist their bolster pillow for added comfort and the perfect fit.

The new queen size bed is 6” longer than his twin bed so we decided to reorient the room and make his gallery wall a focal point above the bed. He had been asking to move the huge lacquered desk out of his room - and I happily obliged and transitioned it to my craft table!

We switched out some of his art by hanging a striking @ginajulian op art over his bed along with the @kayce_hughes_art that has a pop of red that I totally covet as an ode to his previous twin bed.

I found the chinoiserie lamp from @shopuncommoncollector from her corner at @casabellamarketnc and it perfectly pulls all of the colors together. The side tables, draperies and wallpaper all stayed the same and I love how those elements easily transitioned from his little boy room to his teen room. It goes to show that if you buy what you love then you will always find a place for things! I’ll share details of his bedding soon - I am actually waiting for one more item - another request from him.

I’ll share more pictures of the rest of his room soon - but for now let’s appreciate the perfectly made bed because we know it didn’t stay like that for long! Let me know if you have questions!

Happy October 1st! It is officially pumpkin season! I thought it would be fun to show you how I create the faux pumpkin garland on my front porch. What I love about this is that it is for the fall season and not just Halloween.

I will put together a list of materials in case you want to create one yourself. The first year was more time consuming as I figured everything out but this year I am happy to report it went pretty quickly!

At long last and after a lot of requests - here is my favorite way to hang plates on a wall. This is a super traditional way to hang plates and after trying different products, this specific product is my favorite for a few reasons:

1. They come with everything you need to hang a plate, including the hardware that goes on both the plate and the wall. 2. The edges that lip over the plate are rubber tipped so the edge of the plate is protected and you don’t have metal possibly chipping the edge of the plate. 3. The springs on the hanger are firm but have a lot of stretch. I learned why this is important when I tried a cheaper version and my finger got stuck under the metal as I was stretching it over a plate. It was so tight and painful we had trouble getting it off and I thought I was going to lose a finger! Sounds dramatic, but true! 4. There is a built in metal curve on the hanger that allows it to protrude just the right amount for the depth of a plate. And, if you have a deeper plate, it is easy to adjust it.
5. The size range options easily fit all of my plate sizes - except for my largest platter which required different hardware.

I have tried cheaper versions of this style hanger and found they are not created equal. I have also tried the yellow disks that adhere to the back of a plate so the plate hangs without hardware showing. Those require you to prep the plate and hanger for 24 hours before the plate can be hung. Many have had success with those, I am just not one of them. Plus, I like the ease of popping the hangers on and off and working on my wall without having to preplan!

Seeing the hangers slightly doesn’t bother me at all and it is part of the charm and quirk of my wall.

One of the most asked questions I have gotten since sharing I planned to hang my extra large shell platter on the wall is how to hang it. When I bought it I actually didn’t have that figured out yet. So, when I hung it over a month ago I wanted to give it some time to make sure it was super secure before I shared my technique with you.

I am thankful to a follower for recommending this platter hanger. I was a bit intimidated when I first received it because the cords were tangled and I was nervous it wouldn’t support my super heavy platter. Those concerns quickly subsided as soon as I started working with it. It was easy as can be although it did require a bit of manipulation to get it to work for my particular platter - which is asymmetrical and has very thick edges. I will admit that I kept a pile of blankets laying under the hung platter for the first two weeks just to make sure it would hold! Now I can happily confirm this works great and highly recommend it!

I use a slightly different product for my smaller plates and less substantial platters - so stay tuned to learn about that in another video!

POV: I packed for 11 days in Europe in a carry-on! We traveled to 3 destinations in Europe and couldn’t risk losing our luggage. Plus, we needed to be as mobile as possible. Packing this way was actually much easier than I expected.

Here are the outfits I wore in London, Paris (the Olympics!) and the Cotswolds plus our travel days. I wanted you to see which items were used for more than one outfit (always in a different city) and, honestly, I think I could have gotten by with even less! We were super lucky with the weather and it was beautiful and mild for us North Carolinians and even a touch chilly at night!

My clothes fit in my rolling suitcase while an extra pair of shoes and toiletries were packed into my shoulder bag. Packing cubes kept everything organized and I had room to spare plus a few dressy items (not shown) I didn’t even wear.
