Pierogies for Christmas Eve. Fried onions, potatoes mashed with sour cream, Gruyere, and chives. A familiar meal with a small twist, made the same way my family has made Christmas dinner for years. Christmas Eve service, then home for presents. The house quieter than usual, the kind of quiet that settles in once the season finally exhales.
