We’re trying a new tradition this year of doing stockings upstairs in our room, so I hung these larger ones on the banister. Micah’s parents had a fireplace in their room and always did stockings there (for all 7, yes 7 children) and I’m all for trying new special things at Christmas and I’m happy he can bring in one of his traditions. ❤️ So the stockings in the mantel are just decorative (and Lucy plays with them), and I’ll have to just hope no one wakes up in the middle of the night and walks in on stuffed stockings. Anyone else do stockings upstairs?

For literally years I kept the vacuum in front of this window, which meant I had to work the curtains around it every night when I close them, and move it for photos, and sometimes we tripped on it! In preparation for Christmas I did some toy storage shuffling, and since Lucy didn’t play with the actual play kitchen part anymore, just the food, I made room in the sideboard dresser (fabulous kid/craft storage) and tucked the vacuum in the corner. Don’t know why it took me that long to figure that out. What’s your duh home solution it took you too long to figure out? 🤪
P.S. Now this vacuum comes in white, which would blend even better… I linked the current version of it, I’ve found it to be better and more affordable than Shark or Roomba!

I got this adorable guestbook last year with the intention of using it to write our own holiday memories. Unfortunately I didn’t get to it and it sat somewhere in the dining room until about June, but it’s back out and I’m excited to have the kids help me write about the ice-skating, gingerbread house making, crafts with friends, looking at Christmas lights, and other fun things we do in December! Plus, it is such a cute embroidered pattern and such great quality.

I put together this basement guestroom for holiday guests with a free headboard from Facebook and primarily things I already had. It’s not perfect, it’s a little funky, and I’m not sure if that is the right place for those lamps… But it’s cozy and welcoming!

Growing up we always had real trees and my ex husband always insisted on one. They have their pros but I was definitely frustrated with the pine needles everywhere, the constant watering, picking them out in the cold/rain, spending the money every year… but I felt guilty getting a fake one for the downsides they have, and the perception!! But 3 years ago was my first Christmas as a single mom, no husband to judge me or help me, and I went for it. And it was so much easier. Now I put my tree up in the beginning of November and enjoy the glow for almost 2 whole (dark, dreary) months! I love that it’s made the season longer and more joyful for me. But honestly, to each their own!!

Everyone’s favorite part of my classic Christmas decor tour reel was the plaid throws! I rounded up some good ones. The best are the washable wool but absent that, go for slightly thicker with a finer gauge if you can. Festive and cozy! And most are on sale this weekend!

Realized I’ve been going for a classic Christmas the past few years and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I was sure there had to be some scientific reason, so I looked it up. It’s called “context-dependent memory” or cue-based positive recall; when you pull out the mugs each year or choose one instead of a regular mug, it pulls up cozy, joyful, connected moments which releases dopamine. It’s the same reason traditions like music make us feel calm and festive, but it’s cool when a physical element of my home can have that impact too. Another reason our homes matter!

I love this tip for increasing productivity and reducing stress! Especially around the holidays when you’re adding all this holiday stuff to you’re already full regular schedule. I use my calendar instead of a to do list for tasks that take more than a few minutes, so I don’t stress about them until it’s time to do them, and then I can get them done at a time that I thought through! Have you tried this?

After debating and trying to find the absolute perfect fabric and length for a fringed skirt for this table, I finally decided to just get something that I knew would work! I found this affordable tablecloth and fringe on Amazon and put them together in 14 minutes. So much better! Love this kind of project!
