So since my baby girl turned 1 and is eating more, one thing that’s consistent in her diet is porridge…I usually do amaranth, but today we’re trying oats. I make sure that all the ingredients are simple and wholesome. So for the sweetener, I used to use agave nectar, as I don’t use sugar.. but I recently learned it’s not the best as it has a high glycemic index, is very processed, and it’s actually sweeter than sugar and honey So instead of agave nectar, I’ve been using date syrup, specifically by @thedatelady , and it’s been a game-changer. Date syrup is made from just one ingredient: whole dates. That means it’s packed with natural vitamins and minerals like iron, potassium, magnesium, and antioxidants that help support energy for young kids Unlike refined sweeteners, date syrup has fiber, which helps balance blood sugar and keeps digestion gentle on the tummies. It’s also lower on the glycemic index compared to agave or white sugar, so that it won’t cause any sugar spikes and crashes. Plus, it has a rich, caramel-like sweetness that makes oatmeal taste amazing— I even add it to my waffles as well, and it’s so good. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this sooner. It feels so good to know im using nature’s candy, that is also nutritious.
