These little water table hacks changed everything for us last summer and I’m so excited to use it all again now that the weather is finally warming up!

Before I made these changes, my kids would kinda play with the water table for a few minutes then get tired of it and move on.

Or it would just sit and get dirty water in it and became more of a chore than entertainment or something that actually occupied them for more than 3 seconds… which is what I NEED it to be for me.

So what did we do? 4 things made all the difference:

☀️We added a water pump to the table! This allows water to move from the top to the bottom and back up again. Making it wayyyyy more fun and interactive.

🐳We got a light up whale toy that squirts water and floats! My kids love this and we had to get an extra one for the bath.

🐠We got several mold free toy sets for them to play with so they can switch out the theme of the table from sea animals to boats to Toy Story characters.

🦀We got a cover for it! The biggest game changer of all! 🙌🏻 This helps reduce the number of times I need to empty the water or clean it out and keeps the rain and bugs out of it.

As a reading specialist and homeschool mom, I’m always looking for ways to help
My kids become better readers.

So when Hand2mind reached out and asked if I’d like to try their phoneme toolkit, it was an immediate yes for me!🙌🏻

Phonemic awareness is actually one of the strongest predictors of reading success. But how do we foster that? Well, there’s lots of different ways, but one of my favorite ways is to use these phoneme boxes.🍎

There is a box for all 44 phonemes in the English language so whether your child is learning basic letter sounds or digraphs and r-controlled vowels. This is for you!

When we introduce a new sound, I love to pull out the sound box and let my child go through the objects as we name them. We use these as anchor words to help him better understand the sound and store it to long term memory. Sometimes we pull out multiple sound boxes to review the ones he’s been working on and play I Spy, sort the sound, and sound bingo!📚

I will be sharing my curriculum picks soon! But first I wanted to share a few of our favorite supplemental resources.

One of the things I love about homeschooling is that we are not tied down to one specific curriculum and we’re not limited if it’s lacking in something that we want to teach our kids or we want our kids to experience.

I spent a lot of time pouring over which core curriculums to choose, and while I feel that we chose really great ones this year, they don’t necessarily include everything we want our kids to have exposure to.

One of our goals for homeschooling is to give them a really well rounded education so they don’t just know academics, but also have tons of real-world experiences.

These were some really great fines that I was able to snag off of Amazon and many of them were under $20.

Be sure to save this for later if you’re looking for inspiration and ideas, if you end up finding that your curriculum doesn’t necessarily cover everything you wish it did.

Silly me, not realizing I need a simpler explanation and pictures sometimes too😅😂

But really, this has been an AMAZING purchase for our kids. They love reading the stories, looking at the pictures, and asking alllllll the questions.

I also really love the reflection questions and prayer at the end of each story. It’s a great way to get your kids to think about what they read and get comfortable praying.

Not to be dramatic but sleeping withlang in air purifier next to my bed has feenged the game for me!
My kids have one in their rooms too. I love these because they are minis, budget friendly, and have a special high quality filter that not all air purifiers have.

It filters out 99.9% of the bad stuff so you are breathing in good quality air.

Which is always important but especially important for good sleep.😴

This is so gross 😩

I had no idea I was breathing in all this dust while I was sleeping… and even worse, my babies were too!!!💔

I have struggled with allergies for a long time and after being sick back to back this year and finding mold in our home, I’ve been on a mission to make sure our home is healthier and cleaner. 🧼

Part of that starts with air quality.🙌🏻

Did you know room air can be filled with:
➡️ pollen
➡️ mold spores
➡️ dander
➡️ cigarette smoke (we don’t smoke but a neighbor does and sometimes we can smell it in our own house😩)

Did you all know about this?

Take it from the girl who just had to replace her entire shower for almost $10k because of mold.

I was also recently allergy tested (it had been 10 years since my last round) and my doctor said I was severely allergic to a couple types of mold.

She told me to get a humidity meter to see how humid my bathrooms and bedrooms were and to get a dehumidifier if they were above 50% because DID YOU KNOW mold spores can apparently grow and survive in room air that is above 50% humidity?!

I had no idea!🤯

So sure enough I check my bathroom and even when the shower hasn’t been used recently, and the fan is running, it stays about 55-58%.

So after spending almost $10k on a new shower because we found mold and had a water leak… and now knowing how easily mold can grow… I’m not playing around.🙅🏻‍♀️

I have been running this dehumidifier nonstop and we will be checking the humidity daily until further notice.

Do you know what’s actually in your pre-shredded cheese?

Next time you’re at the grocery, grab that bag and look at the fine print. You aren't just getting cheddar… you’re getting cellulose (which is basically refined wood pulp) and corn or potato starch. Not to mention the mold inhibitors (natamycin). 🤮

Manufacturers literally dust the cheese in that stuff just to keep it from clumping together in the bag. That’s why whenever you try to make a grilled cheese or a mac and cheese, it never gets that perfect, silky melt and sometimes feels a little "grainy." It’s not your cooking, it’s the wood pulp! 🙅‍♀️
