I knew I wanted a neutral kitchen. I also knew I didn’t want it to be a boring one. So instead of relying on color to give it character, I focused on warmth and contrast. The creamy paint and warm-toned cabinetry were intentional from the start: they created a softer neutral base rather than a sea of stark white. But the part that really changed the entire feel of the room came after. Here’s the formula: Warm woods, aged brass, woven textures, darker furniture., cutting boards left out on purpose, and collected pieces that don’t perfectly “match.” Those layers are what took the kitchen from feeling like a freshly renovated neutral space to one that feels warm, lived-in and like it belongs to us. So if you love a neutral kitchen but are worried about it falling flat, don’t necessarily add more color. Add more warmth, mix your wood tones, bring in natural materials, and let your metals add another layer. Give all that neutral something to play against.
