This room started as one of those what exactly are we supposed to do in here? spaces due to location and layout, but I instantly knew what it needed to be after our first tour.

We leaned all the way into it: a proper bar, a cozy place to sit, warm wood tones, vintage-feeling details and layers that make you want to pour a drink and stay awhile. Maybe the room that isn’t so obvious can become the most fun one?!

Comment SHOP and I’ll send you the full room details from the furniture and decor to paint colors, finishes + everything else you’ve asked about.

There’s something about fall that makes me want every room to feel a little warmer, a little more layered, and a lot more like home.

Sometimes, it really does start from the ground up. The Bobby feat. CloudPile™ BOB-03 Sage/Denim Plaid Printed Area Rug from @chrislovesjulia x @loloirugs brought in the pattern and warmth this space was missing, while still feeling quiet enough to live with every day. I love the subtle plaid, the mix of sage and denim, and how easily it works with all of the wood tones and collected pieces already in our home. Comment SHOP for everything you see here!

I knew I wanted a neutral kitchen. I also knew I didn’t want it to be a boring one.

So instead of relying on color to give it character, I focused on warmth and contrast. The creamy paint and warm-toned cabinetry were intentional from the start: they created a softer neutral base rather than a sea of stark white. But the part that really changed the entire feel of the room came after.

Here’s the formula: Warm woods, aged brass, woven textures, darker furniture., cutting boards left out on purpose, and collected pieces that don’t perfectly “match.”

Those layers are what took the kitchen from feeling like a freshly renovated neutral space to one that feels warm, lived-in and like it belongs to us.

So if you love a neutral kitchen but are worried about it falling flat, don’t necessarily add more color. Add more warmth, mix your wood tones, bring in natural materials, and let your metals add another layer. Give all that neutral something to play against.

Tiny kitchen upgrade that makes such a difference. I swapped my spice jar lids for these walnut ones and love the little bit of warmth they bring to the drawer two years later! 🤎

Necessary? Debatable. Do I smile every time I open the drawer? Yes.

Barn jacket season might just be the cure to summer end sadness 🤎

This is the kind of layer that makes jeans and a sweater feel like a whole look, and somehow gets better the more you wear it. I went plaid this year and I’m very into it, but there was one other version I almost chose instead!

Comment SHOP and I’ll send you both + the rest of the look. @jcrew #jcrewpartner

I was just telling a client that a stripe is a safe, timeless edge brought to a space. This is such a winning combo, too! The he timeless stripe and woven shade (with blackout options, might I add!) give that highly designed feel, for low effort. They are currently part of the up to 60% off sitewide sale with code MEG 🤍 Comment SHOP for links to both!

Quite possibly the cutest, most unique little Halloween find I’ve ever seen.

These moss witch hat topiaries add just the right spell of magic to the house without sending the decor fully into spooky territory.

Whimsical, a little witchy, and charming enough that the entire household is very into them. Exactly how I like to do Halloween! Comment SHOP to snag some of your own for a very affordable price!

Here’s your reminder that romanticizing your life doesn’t have to mean making it look perfect. While it’s a pretty kitchen that we’re grateful for, a slow Sunday morning, and toddler doing laps around the island before tackling his dad is the actual dream.

The house is rarely quiet, nothing stays perfectly styled for long, and that’s what makes it all feel like home. I’m here to inspire this same balance in your home, too!

#AD A subtle but impactful version of decorating for fall has a lot less to do with actual fall decor and a lot more to do with adding warm layers of life around the house. Things with texture, character and a little patina: the pieces we’ll actually sit on, cook with, collect things in and live with long after the season changes.

I found a few of those little layers during @wayfair’s Epic Fall Sale, happening now through September 21 with up to 70% off + free and easy delivery over $35. A good excuse to cozy up the corners that have been needing a little something!

I’m slowly collecting these over time and adding to our set as we go, because they’re one of those things I know we’ll have for life. Everyday dinners, dinner parties, holidays, all of it.

I fell in love with the vintage finish and the way they make even a regular Tuesday night dinner feel a little more special. Definitely an investment, but one I’m very happy to make little by little.

And if you love the look but don’t want to splurge, I found some really good looks for less too.

There’s an art to mixing all the things you love without the room feeling like it’s fighting for your attention.

For me, it comes down to contrast and scale. If the pattern on the bed is larger, I’ll bring in something smaller in the rug. I’ll mix materials at the windows rather than repeating the same treatment. Warm woods get paired with metal, soft upholstery with harder surfaces, straight lines with curves.

Nothing has to match, but everything should have a relationship to something else in the room.

Different patterns, materials, shapes, tones + finishes that are thoughtfully layered so your eye keeps moving, but the whole space still tells one story.

Comment SHOP and I’ll send you links to the entire space.

There are no words for these pants! Somehow these are actually chic while feeling like the most comfortable thing I own, a combination I’m always skeptical of until proven otherwise.

They’re quite literally the softest pants ever, no lie, but it’s the fit that really got me. Drapey, ridiculously flattering and polished enough to make an outfit feel pulled together while I’m essentially getting away with wearing pajamas.

Safe to say I won’t be taking these off now through fall. Well worth the hype and investment.

I will always love the character of something that looks like it’s been around for years but in a mudroom with a toddler, a golden retriever and a revolving door of real life, sometimes new is the smarter choice.

This rug from the newest @magnolia by @joannagaines x @loloirugs collection gives me exactly what I’m always looking for: that collected, almost-found-it-vintage feeling, without making me precious about actually living on it.

Comment SHOP for the rug + two new pillows from the collection that I snagged, and, to shop my home room by room.

I’ve never believed that having kids means waiting to have the home you really want.

This kitchen was designed for both: the dinners, the dropped snacks, the constant coming and going, and the quiet mornings when I get to stand here with a cup of tea and appreciate every little detail we chose.

Beautiful and lived-in were never opposites to me. If anything, I think the life happening inside a space is what makes good design feel even better.

And yes, I still want the marble. The pretty hardware. The paint color I obsessed over. This is our real life, too and I want the backdrop of it to feel like us.

You can get all the details, including paint colors, and shop each item by commenting SHOP.

I’ve never believed you have to choose between a home that’s beautiful and one that’s actually lived in.

Here, there are kids runnin through. A dog. Toys that migrate from room to room. Spills, snacks, busy mornings and all the little routines that make up our days. And I still really care about how our home feels and looks, because design genuinely brings me joy.

If it brings you joy too, lean into it. The function and the pretty can coexist. You can create a home that works hard for your family and still feels layered, thoughtful and like you.

If that’s the kind of home you’re creating too, follow along 🤍 And if you see something you love, comment SHOP and I’ll send you the link to shop our home room by room.

A home should give you a little more with every turn. A place to land, something useful within reach, a collected piece that says something about you.

The best corners do both: serve a purpose and add another layer to the story of your home.

I haven’t properly said hello in a while and with so many new faces here lately, it felt like a good time. Hi! 👋🏼

A lot of you have found me through my kitchen (she does tend to steal the show), and one of the coolest parts of sharing our renovations has been hearing how many of you have used these posts to navigate + complete renovations of your own.

A few things about me: I’ll rearrange a room 10 times until it feels right. I firmly believe every space needs something old. I’m forever chasing that collected, lived-in kind of home that tells my story, not a catalog’s. I love a good outfit almost as much as a good lamp. A “quick house project” is rarely quick in this house. I’ll always say yes to a crisp wine and oysters. And if you ask where something is from, I will absolutely find the link.

Around here you’ll find lots of home: decorating, renovating, styling, sourcing + all the little details in between…with outfits, entertaining, everyday life and whatever I’m currently loving mixed in.

And as always, comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links to shop my entire home, outfits + Amazon storefronts.

The corners I walk past a hundred times a day deserve a little appreciation, too. The afternoon light, something left on the counter, a room looking particularly good for no reason at all. Here’s a reminder that the ordinary parts of home are often the ones we love most.

To shop my entire home, comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links. 🤍

Love when the sun shows off around here ✨ There’s something about the weekend light pouring in that makes every little detail, texture and corner of a room feel that much better.

My favorite whites aren’t really white at all 🤍

They’re a mix of creamy, nuanced shades that shift throughout the day depending on the light, and you kind of have to be okay with that. Sometimes they read a little warmer, sometimes softer, sometimes almost perfectly neutral. That’s the beauty (and fun) of choosing a white with some personality.

If you’re interested in the exact paint colors I used, or want to shop anything in the space, comment SHOP and I’ll send you the details.

My case for warm neutrals:

Neutral gets put in the boring box far too quickly. I’d argue you just need better neutrals.

Warm wood, creamy paint, veined stone, aged brass, woven textures and pieces that feel collected instead of perfectly matched. There may not be a lot of color happening in our kitchen, but there’s plenty of character—and that’s always been the point.

Quiet? Sure. Boring? I’ll respectfully disagree.

A little character goes a long way🤎 This carved walnut mirror has that collected, one-of-a-kind feel I’m always hunting for, and right now it’s 25% off for Labor Day.

Even better? So many of the other pieces you see throughout this space are on sale too, making it a very good weekend to finally pull the trigger on anything you’ve had your eye on.

The best kind of wardrobe math: fewer pieces, way more ways to wear them.

@trovata has been a go-to of mine for years for quality pieces that stick with me season after season. They’re elevated without trying too hard, comfortable enough for real life, and endlessly easy to mix, match and make my own—which is exactly what I want from my closet these days.

4 tops. 2 bottoms. So many ways to wear them now and straight into fall.

Comment SHOP for everything you see here! Down to my new favorite flats that are entirely comfortable.

Window treatments are an investment, which is exactly why I’ll always make the case for a stripe. They have enough pattern to make a room feel considered and interesting, but they’re classic enough that you’re not going to look at them in three years and wonder what you were thinking.

Basically: the safe bet that doesn’t look like the safe bet. If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger, this is a good time: use code MEG for up to 60% off, one of the highest offers to date.
