California Casual meets contemporary in this relaxed, layered living room. 🤍 The original layout felt small and cramped, and with this being our clients’ primary entertaining space, maximizing seating was a priority. By rethinking the furniture plan and pushing the seating farther back, we were able to comfortably fit two sofas while creating a room that feels much more open and inviting. The design itself was all about finding the balance between two different style preferences: one client loved the warm, organic ease of California Casual, while the other gravitated toward cleaner, more contemporary lines. Their authentic Hans Wegner chairs became the perfect jumping-off point. We layered in warm woods, woven textures, vintage-inspired pieces, a mix of light and dark upholstery, and an earthy palette to create a space that feels collected and relaxed,but still clean and contemporary. And because this is a home shared with some very loved dogs, performance upholstery and durable rugs were every bit as important as the pretty things.
