This project is a perfect example of what happens when you do not default to taking down walls.

A 1985 formal living room that once felt dated and underused has been reimagined into a moody wet-bar lounge layered with walnut, dolomite, and brass + bronze detailing.

Inspired by her love of butterflies and florals, we layered in cozy textures, sweet rattan, and playful art — all grounded by the dreamiest dusty purple wall color (just enough mood without being too mature). 💜 PAINT COLOR —> ‘New Age’ by Benjamin Moore 💜

From the butterfly light to the scalloped vanity moment to the daisy pillows, every detail was chosen with her — not just for her. Because I don’t design with a signature style, I design to reflect yours.

A few kitchen trends I’m ready to see less of? 👀

Oversized quartz veining, industrial pipe shelving, and busy granite paired with an equally busy backsplash.

I’m much more drawn to kitchens grounded in natural materials and organic movement, with thoughtfully paired hard finishes. We’ve always loved simple quartz or natural stone—including quartzite and marble—elevated shelving, and ceramic or zellige tile that adds texture without competing with the countertops.

Timeless choices that aren’t going anywhere.

After years of removing every wall in sight, we think homeowners are craving rooms with a little more intention again. A home can still flow beautifully without every space becoming part of one giant great room.

In Project Rustic Contemporary, we kept the main-floor rooms defined. The dining room feels intimate and special, while the lounge has its own mood and purpose. The family room also has its own identity as a warm, welcoming place to gather. The spaces still connect naturally, but each room gets to have an identity—which gives us more opportunities to create atmosphere, layer in color, and thoughtfully support how the family uses each space.

This is exactly why I was thrilled to be featured in @goodhousekeeping, sharing my thoughts on one of the biggest dining room trends for 2026: the return of the dedicated dining room.

And defined certainly doesn’t have to mean formal or stuffy. In this dining room, charcoal walls create depth, cream drapery and upholstered seating soften everything, and a sculptural chandelier makes even a Tuesday-night dinner feel a little more like an occasion.

I’m not suggesting we add walls just for the sake of walls—but I am very happy to see homes moving away from “open at all costs” and back toward rooms with purpose, mood, and personality.

The staircase might be my favorite before-and-after moment in this entire home.

Before, the carpeted stairs, darker wood tones, ornate ironwork, and open railing around the basement stairs made this large space feel heavy and visually busy. Because the staircase is visible from nearly every angle, we knew a surface-level update wouldn’t be enough.

We removed the carpet and replaced the treads and risers, adding warm white oak treads, crisp painted risers, new handrails, and cleaner black ironwork. We also enclosed the open basement stair railing with drywall, simplifying the architecture and giving the entire staircase a much cleaner look.

Was it a big investment? Absolutely. Staircase renovations are rarely the quiet little line item we hope they’ll be! But this one was well worth it because it transformed one of the home’s most prominent architectural features—and improved the function of the surrounding spaces, too.

By enclosing the basement stairs, we gained a defined wall on the opposite side for a console, lamp, and art—creating a true entry moment.

From there, we repeated the black metal and natural wood throughout the family room, helping the staircase, entry, and living spaces feel connected without looking overly coordinated.

The staircase went from something that visually weighed down the the home to a sculptural focal point, and the perfect bridge between the home’s rustic and contemporary elements.

Blue + white forever. 💙🤍

This kitchen from #ProjectGrandmillennial in Columbine Valley, Colorado, is proof that a classic kitchen can still have plenty of personality—and that you don’t need a gigantic renovation budget to make a big impact.

We kept the foundation timeless with white shaker cabinets from @boxicabinets @semihandmade, then brought in that little bit of something special with blue marble subway tile, a custom hood, and warm brass hardware.

The result feels fresh, cheerful, and traditional without feeling too serious—which is basically my favorite combination. 😉

It also flows perfectly with the rest of this new traditional home, where blue and white, florals, antiques, and collected details show up again and again.

We will never get over this blue marble tile backsplash—it’s the perfect combination of unique and timeless.

California Casual meets contemporary in this relaxed, layered living room. 🤍

The original layout felt small and cramped, and with this being our clients’ primary entertaining space, maximizing seating was a priority. By rethinking the furniture plan and pushing the seating farther back, we were able to comfortably fit two sofas while creating a room that feels much more open and inviting.

The design itself was all about finding the balance between two different style preferences: one client loved the warm, organic ease of California Casual, while the other gravitated toward cleaner, more contemporary lines.

Their authentic Hans Wegner chairs became the perfect jumping-off point. We layered in warm woods, woven textures, vintage-inspired pieces, a mix of light and dark upholstery, and an earthy palette to create a space that feels collected and relaxed,but still clean and contemporary.

And because this is a home shared with some very loved dogs, performance upholstery and durable rugs were every bit as important as the pretty things. Because a beautiful room should still work for real life. 🐾

A long, narrow family room that also serves as the main walkway to the kitchen could have easily become one big design compromise. Instead, we used the unusual layout as an opportunity to create two distinct seating areas—one for everyday lounging and another with four chairs gathered around a round table for conversation, games, and perhaps a little tea. This is #projectgrandmillennial, after all. 😉

Our clients wanted a Southern + European, and classic look with a modern flair, so we layered tailored blue upholstery, traditional artwork, warm wood tones, playful pattern, and natural rattan accents that keep the room from feeling too formal.

The durable rug can handle plenty of foot traffic from three young children, while the fireplace, built-ins, ottomans, and flexible seating allow the room to work hard for real family life.

This is what I love about traditional design: it can feel elegant and collected while still being comfortable, practical, and completely ready to be lived in.

For #projectrusticcontemporaryranch, we wanted to create a dining room that felt warm and organic, but still refined enough to make everyday dinners—and the occasional holiday feast—feel a little more special.

A sculptural wood table anchors the room and comfortably seats eight, while two different chair styles keep the design collected rather than overly matched. Fully upholstered host chairs soften the ends of the table, and curved side chairs in high-performance fabric make the room practical for a busy family with three young girls.

The deep Amherst Gray walls bring the drama, balanced by natural wood, a softly textured rug, floor-to-ceiling drapery, and warm layers of light from the gold-and-glass chandelier and ceramic table lamps. A dark sideboard and expressive abstract artwork add contrast and a more contemporary edge.

This room is a reminder that rustic design does not have to feel heavy—and contemporary design does not have to feel cold. The best spaces often live somewhere in between.

We are so honored to share that #ProjectGrandmillennial was recently featured in the Kitchen Issue of @cottagesandbungalows!

Inside this classic 1979 saltbox home in Columbine Valley, Colorado, we reworked a tight, inefficient kitchen layout to create a space that feels collected, charming, and much more functional for everyday life.

The design layers classic white cabinetry, a blue marble tile backsplash, warm brass details, William Morris textiles, and a turned-leg island that feels more like a beautiful piece of furniture than standard cabinetry. The result is a little Southern, a little European, and perfectly at home in the Colorado foothills.

More than anything, this kitchen reflects the homeowner’s love of color, pattern, and traditional details—while still feeling comfortable, practical, and ready for real life.

Last month we photographed #ProjectEquestrianTraditional with @margaretrajic and @stylewithbrit, and after years of this project in the making, weeks of prep, and travel days for everyone involved, we spent 9 full hours doing what we love: perfecting every shot, fluffing every pillow, moving flowers one inch at a time, and capturing the story of this home.

It is such a privilege to work with talented creatives who not only see the beauty in a space, but know how to bring out the feeling of it. Margaret and Brit made the day so much fun, and truly helped capture the layers, warmth, history, and personality woven throughout this home.

This Saltbox kitchen in Columbine Valley was redesigned to solve what the original layout couldn’t - function, flow, and a clear sense of purpose.

We reworked the footprint to introduce a proper island, created a defined range wall as a focal point, and layered in traditional materials. Blue marble, warm brass, and turned-leg detailing to bring structure and character back into the space. The result is a kitchen that feels organized, intentional, and rooted in classic design, while supporting the way the family lives today.

One of the details that ties it all together is the paint color. As recently shared with @marthastewart, Peggy calls @farrowandball Parma Gray her go-to “color-as-a-neutral” for classic kitchens. Its soft blue tone with just a whisper of gray feels calm and timeless, complementing warm woods, brass accents, and crisp white cabinetry without overpowering the space. We are in print! We are honored to share that two of our projects are featured in the June/July Kitchen issue of @cottagesandbungalows.

These two homes could not be more different in expression, but both were designed with the same heart: to create spaces that feel layered, personal, and truly livable.

At #ProjectMeadowbrook, that meant opening up a dark, closed-off kitchen for a busy family of six and creating a timeless, hardworking space with warmth, symmetry, and ease. The 12-foot island became the true command center—ready for meals, homework, gathering, and all the everyday chaos that somehow always finds its way to the kitchen.

At #ProjectGrandmillennial, it meant reworking a tight, inefficient layout inside a classic 1979 saltbox home and giving it the layered charm the homeowner loved: blue and white, William Morris textiles, a turned-leg island, brass details, and a little Southern-meets-European sweetness tucked into the Colorado foothills.

One kitchen leans soft, tailored, and California-casual with European farmhouse charm. The other is classic, collected, and full of Grandmillennial personality.

Both are a reminder that good design is never just about how a room looks, it is about how it supports the people who live there.

This dining room is a reminder that formal spaces should feel special—but never so precious that they’re off-limits. The goal was to create a room that felt polished and memorable while still welcoming everyday gatherings around the table.

We layered green grasscloth wallpaper, crisp wainscoting, blue drapery, a pink patterned rug, and a touch of equestrian charm to bring personality and color to the space. One of my favorite details was giving the client’s heirloom dining table and chairs new life through refinishing, paint, and fresh upholstery.

The result is classic, colorful, deeply personal, and designed to be enjoyed. More of this home coming soon.

One of the biggest misconceptions about decorating is that everything needs to match, wood tones, colors, etc.

In reality, the most beautiful rooms are built through layers: artwork with character, furniture from different eras, varied materials and finishes, pattern, texture, and layered lighting that adds warmth and depth.

If you’re designing your home on your own, my best advice is to give yourself time. Don’t rush to fill every empty corner or buy everything from one place just to have the room “done.” Collect pieces slowly, live with what you have, and wait for the things you really love.

But when you hire a designer, part of my job is knowing how to create that collected feeling intentionally.

Even when we’re starting with a blank slate, I can create a room that feels as though it came together naturally over time.

By mixing old and new, modern and traditional, refined and relaxed, all from a variety of sources, the goal is a space that feels layered, personal, and full of character
