Been loving a fancy lunch lately, but I still like to keep things simple. These three tips will elevate even a super simple table setting! 1. Tablecloth! I love slightly relaxed 100% cotton ones, they look good even without attention on the ironing board. This one is an Indian import from a very affordable shop! 2. Use multiple dish sets—mismatch the salad plate and the dinner plate. Here I used my everyday white plates plus some antique salad plates from a partial set I have. 3. Earlier this year I started setting the table with a pretty table setting, even just for a Friday afternoon snack or Saturday lunch with the kids. It was for me really, trying to make everyday life prettier, but it turns out the kids love it! “Fancy lunch,” Lucy calls it.

I haven’t had any tablecloths for this table yet, but I found this beautiful imported cotton block print seller that makes them in every size and shape, isn’t this one perfect in here?!

P.S. Have you tried drying your hydrangeas yet? My favorite method is to put them in a vase with 1 to 2 inches of water and just wait till it evaporates. You can honestly keep dried hydrangeas for years, although I tend to replace them every year at this time!

It was so bad for years!! I had given up until I realized 1) we were getting married here and inviting tens of friends and family to potentially walk through the garage and 2) it’s ok to spend some money when you don’t have time (or health/energy) for the hard DIY stuff right now.

We had it painted the same white as the rest of the white spaces in the house (Sherwin Williams Alabaster), made a huge difference right away. Then we had the floor epoxied, which was a slow multi-step process involving a lot of buffing, but it turned out amazing! Then we put back the essentials and one shelf instead of the mess of plastic ones from before (we moved most of the tools to the basement).

Finally, I hung the simplest hooks ever to organize some of our tools and suddenly, we have a clean, fresh, relatively organized garage of practical tools, kids' toys, bikes, gardening stuff, and even room to park my car (although just barely).

I'm so happy we finally did this project, spent some money, and made a big difference! Let me know your questions about this project below and maybe I'll do another post or a blog post answering them!

I’m pretty sure my mom never mastered cutting watermelon because she always said it was a pain and we didn’t have it much. But I’ve always loved it! Everything changed for me when I learned this method. 😂 The kids still want to eat it off the rind so I cut the other half in slices for them, but this is how I like it! So easy too.

I had to buy this $12 knife for a project earlier this year and Micah and I were both completely floored by it… He has a really fancy one, but this one is still better. I cannot believe what Quince charges for this luggage. This is a large hard shell bag for $220 (!). It expands, it has built-in TSA lock, and the inside has nice organization. I've also been using their packing cubes because I like one big bag for everybody's stuff and this way I can keep it organized.

My living room is my favorite room in my home! I recently did a blog post with sources for every single thing and my house, all the rooms, and since I get the most questions about my living room, thought I would share these here.

Where there’s no label, it’s probably vintage! I have several vintage Ethan Allen lamps and other things in here, some art I had inherited from my grandma, and gold frame vintage mirrors, of course. Plus, lots of silver frames of family photos.

I’ve decided I want to start entertaining more, but it turns out it’s inspired the kids too enjoy fancier meals at home too. Lucy asked for a “tea party lunch” the other day and I knew it would take a little extra set up so I got things ready early. The kids loved it. I was never sure about that saying that you dress the way you shop for your closet… But I figure out it’s true for the principles, if not the colors. I always want high-quality natural materials as the foundation, some layering, and fun accent pieces… For an outfit it’s a necklace or earrings, for my home it’s the vintage 1960s fruit sculpture lamp I recently found in an antique store…
But back to this great outfit formula. Full cotton skirt, snug fitting top, cardigan or other short top layer, and of course a fun necklace! Plus real leather sandals, or flats for work. I have been wearing this combo so many places this spring!

I had basically given up on finding a rug that was the right size for this room, but there are great custom options now! A rug that’s the right size, filling the room under at least the front legs of all the furniture, especially in a high-quality natural fiber like wool, makes a space feel so much more comfortable and luxurious.

Lucy’s room was already adorable but the new rug, a more functional and pink-trimmed Roman shade, and some art updates made it feel even nicer. And some additional toys and dolls made it feel more like hers. 💕

Still not over this 90s nostalgia tea party I threw with my friends and our daughters. I found this farm tea set I evidently got for Christmas in 1994 and my parents had held on to… what a great way to enjoy it! Chatting with my girlfriends while our daughters played happily in their dresses and helped pick out their bow colors… What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

My daughter's room was really cute, but needed some upgrades upgrades for function and to make it a little more elegant. First I swapped the Roman shade for this much nicer one… and then the RUG! This made the biggest difference. I found a custom size rug from Sisal Rugs Direct because this room is so long and skinny.

It's a comfortable wool and it comes with a backing attached so it's super easy to lay down. Using a rug the right size gave us enough space for all of her stuff. I was able to clear out some things, get some toy organizers, and then do some final styling touches to make this room feel so lovely and special for her.

I'm going to introduce you to a favorite soup in our house! Otto requested this soup the other day and I figured I would share it with you. The kids call it “Stanley Special,” but I’m pretty sure it’s just a simple Italian sausage white bean soup.

I started making this years ago, inspired by one I think they have it Olive Garden, but this version is dairy free. You can also do it with potatoes instead of beans, but this one is so easy because everything comes from a can.😂

2 pounds of Italian sausage (pork or turkey, though pork is better for sure)
2 onions
3-4 cloves garlic
3 cups broth
2 cans white beans
2 cans diced tomatoes
1/2 bag spinach
Parmesan for serving

I am all about efficiency, so I always use this meat chopper thing instead of a spoon to break up ground meat!

I also hate the smell of garlic on my fingers but I have broken many a garlic press before and they are so hard to clean, so I use this great rocking one. Linking both these tools in my LTK.

Cook for like 30 minutes and it’s done! I add a little parmesan on top because we are low dairy over here.

Sharing the secret to painting a room with just one coat! I learned this on Instagram years ago and it’s life-changing! The trick is, you don’t want to keep stretching the paint farther on your roller. Just paint a 3 ft.² area (or in this case I did a 2 ft.² area because I had a less than perfect roller and a very dark color to go over). Once it starts to get thin, stop and reload your roller!

Edging is a little harder, you may need to do a partial second coat with the brush, or maybe try an edging tool for better coverage. I think I’ll try that next actually!

I’ve totally been there… curtains/window treatments are one of the first things you need when you move in for privacy and light blocking, but they’re expensive and it’s really hard to choose the right ones… so if you’re like me, you might end up living with the IKEA, Target, and Amazon options for a little too long.

I’ve finally decided on the right curtains for almost all of the rooms in my home now. I have a template: pinch pleats, on rings, lined, linen or velvet. Trim tape for some color: texture except on the velvet.
